Guitar Fantasy Camp

I love the wood, shape, rounded edges, and design. The florentine cutaway is a nice touch. I would prefer the next size down.
Be a man. Play the big guitar.

Of those options, I would lean towards a Kauer... but check out the Novos as well if there a model that tickles yer fancy. :baimun:
I’ve never really messed with Novos much, but I tried one today. Pretty sweet, actually. The one I tried was a Serus T, but in terms of specs and whatnot I found a Voltur I think is pretty rad.

So right now I’m dithering between this…

And one of these with this pickup/bridge combo…maybe a different color.

I played the Gretsch Smoke that @jp_nyc and @Motorik are lusting after. It was lovely. I didn’t like it.

Also, I played a bunch of CS Strats and think I’ve got that out of my system for now. As I told the once and future Help!ImaRock IRL years ago, I’m almost always either looking to buy a strat or looking to sell a strat. I’ve owned 989 of them over the years. They’re Peen Simmon kryptonite.

So, I'm on Facebook and I get an ad for CME with Black Bobbin guitars. Never heard of them before. Black Bobbin is a music store in Chicago that sells used guitars but, also makes their own off sets? Not a recommendation, more a question about them but, it fits here because, they are pricey.

Shelby at Black Bobbin used to be associated with CME. They do a kind of tricked out JM (as well as Jag type things and I think a baritone or bass iv) under their own label. These are now built, in part, by Bilt. They also have their own design, the Phantone. I’ve actually tried one of the Phantones that are current at CME. It was fine.

I’m kinda on a break from JM type trems currently because there’s just some inherent tweaking/futzing that isn’t worth it for me given that I’m not much of a trem user.

So as for the IRL version of this scenario, I remain stuck deciding between a Powers A Type and Novo (there’s a couple off the rack ones I like enough or I could custom order a Solus or Miris to my specs). Thanks for nothing @baimun for giving me something to fuss over that I wound up liking the feel of a lot. There’s always the “fuck it” option of a 335 or a fancied up F-type but it seems like that would be a waste of a big silly opportunity.

What custom specs would you want on a Novo?

I’m thinking a Solus F2 with a German carve swamp ash body, Fender scale medium C neck with a maple board, medium stainless frets. Color-wise I’m dithering between faded cherry transparent, round up orange, or one of the lighter transparent Mary Kaye colors—white or sonic blue mostly. Lightest possible aging/relicing.

I tried a Novo Serus T at CME with that neck carve/scale and that pickup config and was very pleasantly surprised as I mostly picked it up to rule it out and prove Baimun wrong. Whole thing felt really dialed in which surprised me as I’d assumed Novos were kind of all hat no cattle because they’re often posted up with outlandish finishes and bought by TGP freaks who own 900 guitars all retailing for $6K each. I’d have just bought this one at CME except I didn’t dig the finish and it’s a pine body and I’m not super into the whole pine guitar thing because through trial and error I’ve found I dig ash and mahogany solid bodies the best and am neutral on alder. Could be witchcraft/coincidence, but at this price point why risk it.

I’ll take a G6134T-58VS
Penguin to match my Falcon.
Almost came home with the Penguin version when I got my Falcon, but the Falcon won out based on the tone.
But the Penguin was damn close, and not near as bulky of a beast.

All right. Incoming.

:snorkelcheney2:

I think this is a good price and if I really dig playing it I can eventually upgrade the pickups and tuners to the USA versions.

Of those two, I like the red one.

Looks like you're going after a P90/single coil setup. I like these, but a LP style doesn't seem like it's what you're looking for.
