Don't be talking bad about Sweet Chucks, now. I freaking love that place.
I keep meaning to check in at Guitar Center, but haven't for about a year. I tend to prefer Guitar Showcase in San Jose (a locally-owned shop) or Gryphon in Palo Alto.
mmmmm NASH mmmmmYeah, there is no reason to go to GC when Showcase is within an easy drive. Hell, I would rather go to Starving Musician than GC any day. Have you been to Sylvan in Santa Cruz? If not, you should stop in when you are on that side of the hill. They actually encourage you to play the pre war Martins and the high end Santa Cruz's. And the Nash's too.
And the Nash's too.
It may good to have a close guitar repair shop. They sent a coupon for a $40 setup. Since I'm a lazy ass who doesn't like to set up guitars with tremolos or split-shaft tuners, that may be where I spend my money there.
I went to Music House in the Glen Burnie Mall in the 60s and they didn't want to let me try a $100 Decca 12-string; I had the money in my pocket to buy it. My friend would walk in barefoot in shredded jeans and they would gladly plug an expensive Gretsch into a Vox Super Beatle for him. :rolleyes:Chuck Levin's isn't super close for me, and my limited interactions there have been less than great. I was there once and asked a salesman if I could play a $200-odd Jay Turser. His response: "Are you gonna buy it?"
Well, no, not anymore.

Split shaft tuners? Aside from locking tuners, they are the easiest to string.
Hate 'em. I end up with very sloppy string jobs.
Sounds X-rated.Do you cut them and cram the end of the string down the hole in the middle of the split?
Sounds X-rated.
Because you are not worthy.Remember when all the guitars were in the locked glass case? Those were the days.
