Gran Turismo appreciation thread

So when do you run them off the road or hit them with homing shells?

it's not strictly a kids' game, dude. It also has realistic physics so people who don't know how to race (i.e. use the brakes) tend to run themselves off the road. :embarrassed:

So I am to understand there are no power-ups? :(

Actually, there are. You can take pretty much any vehicle you own and tune it to your liking. As mentioned earlier, it's a lot of fun taking a 10,000 cr piece of junk and modding it until it screams. :)

So.

A PS3 is what, $350?

Gran Turismo 5 is $60

Pedal/Wheel controller $150 or so?

Not to mention my TV is still an older 36" tube type. :embarrassed:

Looks like a lot of fun, but won't be cheap.

Haha sometimes the vehicles they include are surprising. I havent seen the full list yet from 5 but Im not shocked to see those there. Have you ever played any of the Gran Turismo games? If not, I strongly suggest you try one out. I dont know anyone who likes cars that doesnt really enjoy them.

Is it true that GT 5 included Ferrari and Lamborghini, by the way? If so, I believe I will HAVE to bite the bullet and buy a PS3.

EDIT: I just looked it up DAMN. I dont know where Im going to find the cash this second, but after looking at the car list, it isnt a question for me, I MUST get Gran Turismo 5. Wow.

This might be the thing that finally makes me buy a game system.

Sooo...a question for those of you who play this or NFS or any of the other driving games: Do you buy the wheel and pedal controllers?

Yes but they're not strictly required. In fact, i have plenty of fun racing GT4 with onlly the controller.

60 bucks for a warrantied, rebuilt PS2, plus maybe 5 for the game. Craigslist would have PS2s even cheaper. GT4 is completely awesome and that's all you'd need. A wheel/pedals run 25 or so but they arent required. Fun, but not required.

Dude......just look at this.

That is so awesome I want to cry.

As far as a wheel goes, I agree with Kellanium. HOWEVER, having said that, for Gran Turismo specifically, it really does add a thick layer of awesome to it. GT is far more realistic than NFS or any other racing game Ive ever owned or tried, so it really can feel almost like you're driving. If you can drop the dough on the wheel, do it.

I never got a wheel. If I were to get a new PS2 or even a PS3, I'd probably have to get a wheel. It definitely looses something in the feel department when you're driving with a controller.

That wheel that tamoore has looks awesome, but it's $300.

Wow. That's.....expensive. However, if GT5 is as realistic as it seems, I can see it being worth it. Cheaper than renting a Ferrari for a weekend at least :embarrassed:

Oh man. All Ferraris. I am drooling. I dont know how but I am going to have this SOON.

Not kidding that the wheel is fucking awesome.. The force feedback is smooth, and STRONG (110volt motors)..... Worth the money. I got mine from Craigs list for 75 bucks from a kid who needed crack money (just kidding :embarrassed: ).... Several of the older ones (just as good, IMO) on there for 150 or less, actually.... :embarrassed:

The Boxer is what caught my eye!

There's a monthly "Cars and Coffee" event here and a lovely black 599 showed up about two months ago:

That 599 has a fat ass. It's like Kirstie Alley - really chubby but still manages to be good looking. :embarrassed:

I've never thought they were especially good looking in photos but they've got tremendous presence in person. And it's definitely not a small car.

I know you arent a lambo fan, DMN, but this ..... wow. Just wow.
