Do you name your guitars?

I never did. I do, however, own one guitar that I have named Dreamer. Mainly because it is no longer "just" the Epiphone.

No, for gawd's sake. They are not Lucille. And I am not gawd damned B.B. King. Fuckin' play and shut up about it.

I fail to understand the irrational butt hurt this subject causes.

If someone else names his or her guitars, why the fuck should anyone else care? The premise that anyone who names his or her guitars thinks he or she is B.B.King is ludicrous.

It's a tradition. Follow it, or not.

But if you don't, try not to pee your panties if someone else does.

Sorry. My stated view meant primarily to be applied to me only. Though I did not post it that way clearly. I need to work on my self talk.

Only a couple, my one bass I bought when I cashed out a savings bond that my grandma left me when she died so it's named Irene.

My black Dean Evo was once my go to guitar for Gibson heavies, so I call it Brutus, and my #1 strat is so versatile and does everything well, so I named it Bo Jackson.

No worries.

It seems like every time the subject comes up there's an avalanche of "OMG no, WTF, seek psychological help if you do this!" responses.

I started naming my guitars when my kids were little. It was fun. I still do. It still is. (Even though they're no longer little. The kids. Not the guitars. The guitars have stayed the same size.) I might've started naming them even if I didn't have little kids, though. I name my cars too. I find it amusing. I'm immature.

I am not sad, or angry, or amazed, that others do not feel the same way.

Who does this?

Lots of people.

Some people find it fun. People name their boats, and sometimes their cars, or planes, or other possessions, so there's certainly no necessary prohibition on naming inanimate objects. It's a longstanding tradition with guitars, that some choose to continue for their own personal amusement.

At least that's my story. And I'm stickin' to it.

For the record:

Column 1 (from top):
Paula, Ruby, Cherie, Shirley, Joan, Seven, Brownie
Column 2 (from top):
Blondie, Ol' Blue, Farrah, Mary, Ari, Cassie, Dani
Column 3 (from top):
Chrissie, Theresa, Rickie, Raquel, Birdie, Corinne, Junie
Column 4 (from top):
Goldie, Coco, Whitney, Nell, Sonia, Natalie, Delia

A lot of the names are self-explanatory, based on color/finish, or model name. But none are utterly random. For some reason, I've never named my acoustics.

Because, who does that? Really!

Oh wait. Gary.

No, with two exceptions that were born from a joke.

After I finished doing all the mods and upgrades to it, including completely replacing the hardware with black parts, and painting the back of the neck black, I took my Black strat to rehearsal and the other guitarist said "damn! That's a whole lot of black! Whadduhya call that thing?"

I just blurted out "The Black Strat of Doom", and it stuck. At that time I had it configured as an H/S/S setup so I only used it for Humbucker stuff.

When I switched over to it's aesthetically opposite, my white strat, he asked what I would call that one in response to the the black one... "It's The White Strat of Chimey Goodness!" Was my reply since it was S/S/S.

Both names just stuck. After a while it just became habit to refer to them that way.
