Question: Do you foresee a time when saxophone becomes common again in popular music?

And the guitar.
Guitar is around right now.

It would be nice for instrumental pop music to come back again. That really ended after the 60s. Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66, surf music, and there were a few instrumental pop sax players like Boots Randolph.

I'm not sure we need muzak versions of Drake songs.

Bacharach and Beatle arrangements were cheesy enough...

Not much. But that’s normal IMO. I think there will always be a small place somewhere for a Clarence Clemons or a Bobby Keys. I mean you can’t deny the sax has a place in rock and roll. It’s a timeless sound that has proved itself in many genres.

It will likely become more of a class thing, to some extent. Seen more and more as a rich person’s instrument, like the way orchestral instruments are sometimes perceived. Accurately or not.

There were tons of original instrumental tunes released in the 60s. And even Wes Montgomery turned to pop and covered The Beatles. Coltrane covered The Sound of Music. And Bacharach wrote directly for many of the instrumental artists that arranged his work.

I don’t begrudge anyone for making a harmless living, and I’m glad that he was able to do that.

But despite the fact that Montgomery’s talent and professionalism is clearly evident in those recordings, it doesn’t mean that they were very good.

Wes Montgomery doing schmaltz-y Beatles isn't good music. I don't think any of his fans think that was the highlight of his life.

And I didn't mean to say Bacharach himself is sacrosanct -- he did write "Arthur's Theme" and "That's What Friends are For" after all. He was plenty capable of cheesing it up on his own.

Yes agreed. Although Road Song is beautiful.

Lady Gaga had the excellent taste to bring in Clarence Clemons!
Clarence’s nephew, Jake Clemons still tours with the E Street Band & is an artist with his own thing going on.

It will always be around because of all the great songs that have sax on them some artist will always listen to one and say I've got to have that on my song. Question is with school shutting down school music programs will there still be anyone who can really play.

I foresee a time when popular music will once again be played by banging rocks together and blowing into hollow logs.

Heilung are working on that. If they can just whack the right deer antlers together they could be the next Hu.
