Question: Describe to me Dire Straits' place in the Pantheon of Classic Rock

I was so disappointed. I had tickets to see him about 10-15 years ago, and he got in a motorcycle accident and had to cancel the tour.

I remember the first time I heard "Sultans of Swing" back in '78. I was coming home from a morning shift at the Bakers Rooms restaurant in Madison, and when I got in, I told my wife (well, not technically until a year from then) "I just heard a new Dylan song with some awesome guitar!"

Honestly, I don’t get that comparison at all. He doesn’t strike me as Dylansque in any way.

It has nothing to do with being "Dylanesque" FFS! If you listen to the vocals on this particular song, his voice is quite similar in pitch and timbre to Dylan. You are over-analyzing this to a rather incredible degree. That was my reaction on the first time I heard the song. I apologize. Get over it...
