I think that's a cat hair near the bottom right of the slice. adds fiber and flavor!

I'm bringing sexy/the bread thread back. It's study week for students, so I get to stay at home and bake on a Wednesday (sadly not pie and not even round). Lotta firsts: first time using a banneton (brotform?), and first 'ears' from slashing (scissoring, in my case). 50% whole wheat, 85% hydration.

Not bread, but I was very excited to learn that you can use what would otherwise be discarded starter to make crackers that have a really nice savory sourdough tang. Almost kinda like a fancy-pants healthy cheez-it.

The pink is from a bit of pureed purple carrots, in case DdBob is worried about artificial coloring.

Interestingly, this bread is actually more sour than previous loaves. My hunch is that the extra sugar from the carrots provided a bit more easily fermented stuff for the lactic acid producing bacteria.

Oolong bread?
Ahh! missed opportunity! instead of crackers, I should have made pancakes with the leftover starter and put some on the bunnies head!
