this has nothing to do with books, but this post made me go back and watch this. total awesomeness of that era
I was just watching a couple of old fights on youtube Saturday that were wars.
Rossman- Capuano 1 from back in 1979 or 1980. I remember watching that fight when it was broadcast. Rossman - Capuano II wasn't nearly as entertaining, you gotta watch the first fight.
And the Carbajal - Gonzalaez I fight. Another war that could've been fought in a phonebooth.
I've tried searching for a fight I saw that was just brutal, the ref had to stop it or one or both fighters were going to the hospital or morgue, but not being able to remember the fighters names, I can't find it :( It was a Lt.-Heavyweight bout, shown on USA network I believe, one of the fighters was a Kronk fighter, white guy, 16-0 at the time with like 14 kos, the other fighter was a black guy with a record like 22-2.
They stood toe-to-toe for like 5 or 6 rounds, absolutely no defence, it was like rock-'em sock-'em robots. The ref finally stopped in and ended the fight, awarding it to the black guy, but either way he did the right thing as it had to be stopped for both fighters safety.
I wish I could find out who they were, absolutely incredible fight. I tried doing a search on Kronk fighters, no luck there...
