Belated NGD PRS SE Tremonti

That guitar I really dig...I loves me some natural mahogany...even when that mahogany is a prime example of how phiilipine Luan is now considered mahogany...

Does mine look like Luan? It might be. It has a lighter tone. This one was MIK.

And thanks - yes I love natural guitars too.

Congrats! It's pretty sweet looking. I am not a giant fan of the SE series. They are certainly well made, but they feel sort of lifeless to me. Best I can explain it. Something about them just doesnt feel right, even though they are well-built and they play OK. That is only based on playing a few though. I like them enough I would keep giving them a chance. Only reason I mention this is because you almost seem like you may feel the same way about it in the "not so good" section, wondering if I am not the only one that likes them but cant bring myself to love them.

hey look everybody! it's debbie downer!

maybe the guitar just needs a new set of strings and a setup?

I doubt it's chambered. Mahogany is fairly light when sliced thin ala SG, Melody Maker, etc. As for the top being veneer, I doubt that, too judging by the grain lines over the cutaway. Finally, that smokin' body looks like a one piece - is it?

I dig it.

Congrats!

I just bought a PRS SE singlecut myself. The salesman mentioned the Termonti to me since they are essentially the same guitar with different aesthetics, but they did not have one in stock and I am not buying a new guitar - especially an SE, without playing it first. The three singlecuts I played there were all a bit different.

And I completely agree with your evaluation of the pickups. That slightly more treblely tone is one of the things I liked about the guitar.

I think I posted this somewhere else - but I'm not a big PRS champion. I played an SE a couple months ago at a local GC, and really did not think much of it. I had admired the Tremonti in natural finish, and when this one showed up on MF used - the price was right - I grabbed it - but did take on some risk - hoping this would impress me more that the one at GC. And it did. I think if people are expecting a Les Paul clone - it's not that, and they will be disappointed. If people DO want a cheap LP clone - I say "Michael Kelly Patriot".

Thanks. Yeah - I don't think it is a veneer.

It is hard to tell if it is one piece - but I'll take a closer look tonight.

Thanks. Yes - they may very from one to another. (Probably all guitars are a bit like this really.) It may explain why I did not think much of the SE I played at GC - but why I like this one.

I took a closer look to see if it is one piece. I think it is. If it's more than that they blended it seamlessly.

What? I wasnt insulting the guy. I hope he really loves the thing. I was just wondering if he sorta felt about them like I do, which seemed like it might be the case based on his statements.
