Baseball Isn’t Boring, YOU’RE Boring

So baseball made this deal with both FOX and NBC to stream games in-market. You can stream out of market on MLB.tv, but not in-market. Some teams are on Fox networks and some are on NBC networks. So depending on your team depends on where you stream from. The Mets are an NBC team. So I tried to stream the game last night. The big stipulation is that you have to subscribe to cable, and get the sports network the team's games are broadcast on, to get the stream. I downloaded the NBC Sports app, entered my information, and got an error message that the game was blacked out.

Nats are on MASN, which is a pay channel. Stupid Peter Angelos. Dick.

Gotta pay those salaries somehow.

Oh, it's way worse than that. Teams make $50 million from MLB's national contracts every year, solely because they exist. So if you have any team with a payroll under $50 million, the owners are basically on corporate welfare from the league. But going past that, some of the RSNs have a contract with the team, and some are partially owned by the team in a joint venture. The Mets own something like 30% of their RSN, Sportsnet New York. The players never see that money, as the owners run the team as a for-profit venture. So there's no subsidy from tv rights. All of that money goes into the owner's pockets, which of course is well within their rights. The Mets could probably have a $200 million payroll and still be well into the black. I think they're around $150 million this year. That's a nice chunka change.

Forgive the ignorant question, but does any team have a payroll under $50 million? It seems like a hear numbers like $25 million thrown around all of the time for salaries of just one player.

Another thing that pisses me off,no baseball on regular network channels. Fucking money grab.
honestly the MLB package is the best 100-120 dollars you can spend. I believe the package through a cable service is quite a bit more but if you stream like I do (going on my 7th year I think) it's 100 for the basic one and 120 if you want the choice to get home or away feeds. I'm pretty well happy network doesn't have it because that'd be just one less chance to watch (blackouts, etc). Now if per chance your team is in your state then yer fucked because it'll be blacked out all the time thanks to the Cable (fox sports) monopoly....luckily for me I hate the Diamondbacks and follow the Giants so I only miss about 14 games a year otherwise i watch a Giants game 6 days a week....and that's why the MLB package is the best deal around...streaming. I mean shite, it goes from April till October!!!

Not anymore, but it still happens. The numbers have just moved up. The Marlins were under that for quite some time. One year, Alex Rodriguez made more than the entire Marlins team. According to Tiger Roach's link, the lowest payroll is the Brewers at $63 million. That's easily covered between national & local broadcasts, and stadium naming rights. The Brewers are fleecing their fans by putting a crummy product on the field.

I do plan on getting the streaming package. I have to sort out a few financial things first.

I used to play comptetetive Baseball in HS.
Loved it. Was pretty good at it, even though I was a late bloomer and was smaller than most of the other kids. Made the all star team when I was a kid, blah, blah, blah.....so I WAS pretty good at it. Played SS and 2nd base, mostly. Did play Catcher for a while.

I haven't watched a professional Baseball game in probably 25 years.

Fuck those guys.
Bunch of cry-baby, over-paid, over-privledged, doping turds if you ask me. But since you didn't ask me...what do I know? I must be boring, because I find Pro Baseball games incredibly boring.

I no longer enjoy the sport. I think it is a crock of shit.

I enjoy throwing the ball around with my kid and his friends, and that's as far as it goes.

I'd almost rather watch paint dry to be honest than watch a bunch of borderline steroid-freaks try to see how far they can hit a baseball (while not getting caught doping).

Yeah, I fold on that one.

And it is almost as boring as watching professional golf, or even NASCAR. At least in NASCAR there are crashes.

Diamondbacks always jump out fast only to FAIL...they suck, they're losers. The fanbase is even worse. Complete bandwagon fans and once they start losing...seats go empty , fans boo, they're horrible. Give it another couple weeks and then check on them again around June..shite sandwich

Let's see how many teams you root for this year. cop0

MLB is a game of chance.

Sure, you can increase your chances, but in the end.....it's a game of chance, not skill. JMHO.

Over paid is standard for anything these days....get over it. It is what it is. They got lucky, more power to 'em if they can make that. I haven't watched any college baseball or H.s. or little league but I'm guessing it's the same game game. Steroid freeks ....not really sure who/what game yer watching or even what era? Is doping still an issue? ...

I am with you on Golf but you lost me with NASCAR..."at least there are crashes"....so yer saying a 5 second crash with the 20 minute delay for clean up is less boring than baseball...really ? I'm sorry but I can't take you seriously anymore.
