I liked some of the STP songs, had a tape of that first album.

I have hardly heard a note of the Pumpkins. I might even like them? It’s just that Mellon-Collie is such an awful pun to use in an album title that I question everything about them.

I’d have to go back and give them both a listen. My first reaction is STP because I think Tiny Music is better than anything the Pumpkins did.

STP. Songwriting wise I found they did some pretty interesting stuff compared to a lot of bands of that time.

Never liked the Pumpkins much really, but I have to admit Corgan's exceptionally whiny voice is a big part of that.

Pumpkins have their charms and Iha is THAT DUDE. But, STP is the cream of the crop for 90s AOR musicianship and, as @Chad noted, Tiny Music is several levels better than anything Corgan could ever hope to muster.

I went STP, but like both in their place. Think I will play some 90’s in that vein on the stereo when doing some work today.

I’m not really much of a fan of either, but the Pumpkins were interesting for a couple of albums. STP is 100% disposable.

I like both bands, they were big parts of the soundtrack to my high school years. I dig most of STP's catalogue and they have some really interesting guitar and bass stuff going on in most songs. Some of the Pumpkins stuff I can't stomach, so STP.

And Weiland had a phenomenal voice. Billy's voice not so much.
