Any Knicks fans live here?

Dogsinplastic

avuncular to no one
I'm a lifelong Knicks fan. I was one when they won their last ring, so I have no memory of it. They really didn't fully enter my consciousness until Ewing showed up, he's the reason I'm a fan.

I know the number of years doesn't complete with the Red Sox or the Cubs, but it's been my lifetime. They were consistently the team that gave the Bulls the most troubles during the Jordan years, but once Pippen was in place, no one beat that pairing once they figured it out. Refs have never been their friend, Phil Jackson and other opponents made sure of that.

The '94 run was something and Riley coached them out of a ring then. The '99 title run was as fun as it was (and proved to be) improbable.

This team is special. They aren't stacked with draft selections. They aren't truly centered around a single player carrying all the weight and expectation. Their post season play is other level. They have no quit. They are gritty. They are fun and joyful.

What they are on cusp of is crazy. Despite everything being stacked against them, including a truly shitty owner in James Dolan (trash human being) that has repelled players for decades. We don't to see as many games since moving to VA in 1999, but I've been watching the ups (so few and far between) and downs (far too frequent). I've become such a pessimist that I'd been hating on all the moves that have led to the current situation and have never been so glad to be so wrong.

I'll be at a concert Saturday night, but my eyes will be glued to the Knicks game...

I was living in Houston in '94. The finals where Olajuwon got redemption on Ewing after Houston lost the '84 NCAA final to Georgetown. I still have my Rocket's Championship hat from '94 somewhere. That was Houston's first championship in any professional sport. The Oilers got close a few times but never made it into the Superbowl. As someone that grew up in Houston, winning the NBA title was a pretty big deal for the city.

So while not a Knicks fan, the '94 finals are memorable for me. As far as this year goes, I'm somewhat impartial, although being from TX, I find myself leaning to the Spurs.

My issue with the Spurs is they are the opponent and that Wemby is a dirty player that has been allowed to get away with anything he wants. The league has changed so much since 1994, but his style of play is nasty (bad nasty). It disrespects the game and his opponents.

I can handle losing, again I'm a Knicks fan, but do so by being the better players and team. Play a fair game, play a clean game, don't rely on your status to get bad calls in your favor. The league supposedly now has a no taunting rule and Wemby has violated it at least five times in this series. The calls he gets in his favor, the ones against opponents, and especially the ones they don't call are awful. He has committed at least three flagrant fouls against the Knicks and only one of the them was even called, let alone judged to be flagrant. This style of play and this officiating tarnishes the sport as much as the full integration of betting (gambling) in the game.

Wemby has been anointed the new face of the game and he wears it poorly already. Jordan, Kobe, LeBron, Curry, and others, they all showed you their greatness by playing a clean game, by simply being better than you. Not unlike Duncan. Wemby is the anti-Duncan. All ego in every way. A huge portion of his game is simply based on his physical plant, that eight foot wingspan is crazy, but he needs to be careful. Injuries are inevitable and they always cause more problems for the biggest guys. If he keeps playing dirty, at some point his opponents are going to target him. This Knicks team is too classy to stoop that low. The Pistons of the '80s and 90s, Lambeer and Rodman, would've leveled him several times over by now. Again, a different time and far different iteration of the league.

Never truly hated the Duncan Spurs, even loved those years they stopped the Lakers from winning, but this team, based around this guy...

Last night's game was insane. OG's never gonna need to buy a meal in NYC again. Absolute instant classic and won't ever be forgotten especially if they can win one more.

Even though they demolished my Hawks in the opening round I've been pulling for them. You're right that there's something about them!

Spectacular Knicks run, so far. I predict NYC will, literally, be burning in celebration soon.

If you haven’t beaten up a Spurs fan, can you truly call yourself a Knicks fan? Epic tribalism.

Holy smokes that was exciting! That Brunson is a baller. It isn't over though.
I was digging Taylor and her friends jumping around in their floor seats like high schoolers.

Is there a cooler name than OG?

I think the Knicks are now firmly in the driver's seat. What a crazy comeback.

Dude brought his sewing machine into the street, so he could embroider the date on his neighbors' jerseys (for free) to celebrate the occasions of the Knicks championship wn….
