Dogsinplastic
avuncular to no one
I'm a lifelong Knicks fan. I was one when they won their last ring, so I have no memory of it. They really didn't fully enter my consciousness until Ewing showed up, he's the reason I'm a fan.
I know the number of years doesn't complete with the Red Sox or the Cubs, but it's been my lifetime. They were consistently the team that gave the Bulls the most troubles during the Jordan years, but once Pippen was in place, no one beat that pairing once they figured it out. Refs have never been their friend, Phil Jackson and other opponents made sure of that.
The '94 run was something and Riley coached them out of a ring then. The '99 title run was as fun as it was (and proved to be) improbable.
This team is special. They aren't stacked with draft selections. They aren't truly centered around a single player carrying all the weight and expectation. Their post season play is other level. They have no quit. They are gritty. They are fun and joyful.
What they are on cusp of is crazy. Despite everything being stacked against them, including a truly shitty owner in James Dolan (trash human being) that has repelled players for decades. We don't to see as many games since moving to VA in 1999, but I've been watching the ups (so few and far between) and downs (far too frequent). I've become such a pessimist that I'd been hating on all the moves that have led to the current situation and have never been so glad to be so wrong.
I'll be at a concert Saturday night, but my eyes will be glued to the Knicks game...
