Amazing Live Performances

No video can show the amazing power of a Pete Seeger concert in his prime. The way he brought the audience into the show was amazing. There were no spectators in the house.
 
This is my favorite. You can watch both the Montreux 2009 shows on YouTube. A DVD quality video and a three CD set were leaked and it’s one of the best Prince bootlegs ever. It was supposed to be released in 1080p on Blu-Ray ago but Prince dropped the ball and his estate hasn’t picked it up.
 


I bought this album on a whim as a teenager, got home and turned out that gig was on TV that night. I wasn't even that into Springsteen but the CD and show had me hooked - the extended version on the album still gives me chills.

I had a vague idea of him doing the song and being threatened by the NYC cops if he performed it but didn't think much of it - at the point the internet was still pretty insular and I'd never travelled so the idea of a black male being shot by cops on the way home from work 5,000 miles away was far too abstract for a 16 / 17 year old me to comprehend fully.

Skip 20 years forward and it's more pertinent than ever.
