2026 Concert Thread

Taking my freshly college graduated son and my wrapping up HS sophomore son (being our only children) to see Springsteen tomorrow at Nats park. This will be our first Bruce show. It's the message of the tour and seeing/hearing the music that are relevant to us...I'm (not surprisingly) the biggest fan of the Boss.

Alabama Shakes at Red Rocks this past Monday night.

I've been to Red Rocks a couple of times, but only during the day for a hike/visit while I was in the Denver area. Never been to a show there. It's a one-of-a-kind venue.

The acoustics are darn near perfect there. Bands that I've seen at multiple venues have always sounded their best at Red Rocks.

Springsteen was awesome. Played a ton of songs. The band is incredibly tight, no surprise there. Morello was really good to, but Nils is still the best guitarist on that stage.

Twenty two song main set and five song encore. Started at about 8:embarrassed:2 and played until 10:50. The encore break may have been one minute, but it might have been as little as 30 seconds...we'll say 45 seconds to split the difference. That he and his long running band members can still do this at this level in the mid-70s is crazy. That they are still doing as well as ever, is mind-blowing.

Bruce and his band are fighting a good fight, spreading the word on the growing problems in our nation, how it affects us and the world, and pulling no punches. His voice sounds great, as strong as ever without as much high range, but that was never his thing. Spot on pitch.

First Springsteen, but hopefully not my last. The boys really enjoyed it too. My youngest, Milo, is a HUGE folk music fan and we agreed that Bruce is essentially a folks singer that uses a full rock band to complete the sound in his head. That the band closed with Dylan's Chimes of Freedom and that the closing house music was Woody's This Land Is Your Land pounded home where Bruce is coming from.

I really want to see the Shakes, love their sound.

I also want to move to Colorado for a summer and go to every show at Red Rocks. They regularly have the best lineup of shows. Can't think of more than a handful of venues that compete for my taste.
Red Rocks has occupied an almost mythological place in my brain ever since I saw Under a Blood Red Sky a million years ago. There was something so evocative about it, with the rocks and the rain and the fire and the whole bit. When I finally saw my first show there (Khruangbin in '21) I was just knocked out. It's a special place for sure.

And yeah, catch the Shakes if you ever get the chance. Great band.

The acoustics are great when the air is still. If the wind starts to blow the volume drops the harder the wind blows.

My wife made me aware of this show this morning: Wilco playing at Steel Stacks in Bethlehem, PA, next Wednesday (June 17). So we bought tickets. Looking forward to seeing Wilco because it's been a while. Also going to see Kurt Vile in Brooklyn in July.
