Also got tickets for the Manic Street Preachers with Suede supporting later in the year.

Chicago Theatre last night.... great show... amazing performers!!!

It's one thing to watch the video of Steve playing this Hydra monstrosity... but to watch him live navigate all the necks and coax all of those sounds out was pretty wild.

Not enough credit goes to Pete Thorn. This man was doing so much heavy lifting so everyone on stage could shine!! All the rhythm parts, so many fast harmonizing parts, layering of sounds, cleans, had a handful of solos... and there was no keyboard player! A few times he was using some kind of rotary organ sound and filling all the keyboard parts. Amazingly talented and only a couple songs in, I lean over to my buddy and say "Is it too soon to declare Pete has the best sounding rig on that stage tonight?" :baimun:

They switched up a lot of different guitars, but this hollowbody that Steve played was one of the coolest, and It was refreshing to hear him without the trem or sustainer.

Kenny's drum sound was the only thing I could really take issue with... the bass drums sounded great, but the cymbals and snare were rolled off and not very present. Possibly because Steve and Joe spend so much time in that upper frequency range, but it was noticeable. His playing was great though.

Tosin and Javier in Animals as Leaders were interesting. Kind of a relentless onslaught of every note, frequency, and rhythm pattern.... all at once.
Playing was great, but every time I would start to groove with a song, they'd break off into some math-rock stuff that the crowd was digging, but made Tosin's joke later even funnier. "So there's probably a few guitarists out there, right?" Crowd cheers. "Let's hear it for the WIVES out there!!...." Applause mixed with chuckles from all the people who (like me) their wives were at home. :lmbo:

Most of Animals as Leaders set they stood in front of their mics, played their asses off... very limited spotlights on the musicians (had to cycle through about 8 pics to find some where you can actually see them playing). The rest of the time those spinning, blinking, laser-sphere-disco-ball looking things were trying to mind wipe us... flashing and changing colors in syncopation with the playing. Like the Pink Floyd laser light show... but instead of slow, acid trip.... it was speed metal meth crash out. :helper:

Did you folks enjoy the show too?

There’s no wrong answer, but I hope you did…

For sure!

The kiddo moved out a few months ago, so the 4 hour drive to get there was great cause we got to hangout and talk a bunch.

Musically I had no expectations because it’s an old old man. The old old man happens to be Dylan and he’s going to do whatever he wants. If you try to put him in a box, you’re going to be disappointed.

The performances were great. Talking to friends who have seen him lots of times over the last few years, they thought he was much more present and into the songs than some of the other times they’ve seen him.

I was really enamored with his band and how they were totally locked in on him the whole time. He can go wherever he wants and they would’ve been there for it.

just got back from the Steve Vai Joe Satriani concert. It was a real note fest.. the band Animals As Leaders opened. They must get paid by the note as well. It was a theater full of frustrated guitarists by the end of it.

I haven't seen Wilco in so long...last time was in Scranton, PA, and I don't think they'll ever come back there. Shitty audience.

Tuesday I was down in Philly to see Courtney Barnett. It was a great show with two openers and a bonus appearance by Kurt Vile.
IMG_1078.jpeg

First opener, Truman Sinclair and his sick band. I'm not sure that they're officially named "sick band," but that's what he called them. They were just wee young lads and sounded great. Played 30 minutes.

IMG_1085.jpeg

Second opener, Momma. They were damn good as well. Played 45 minutes.

IMG_1090.jpeg

And Courtney Barnett. She was, of course, awesome.

Kurt Vile came out for one song toward the end of the show. They played "Over Everything" from their album Lotta Sea Lice.

While I found Jim Morrison to be insufferable, this VIP package sounds fun. Maybe conjur up some unpleasant Morrisonesque memories at the snack buffet and open bar. See how many whiskys you could take them for. Absolutely stop short of any alleged indecent exposing. Act like you have the keys to the city with that damn Laminate. Hang the tote around your neck.

The Doors do have some timeless, all time classic tunes. Very well crafted. This wouldn't be a bad show.
A Saturday night at The Whisky!

Went and saw Mac Demarco this week at a 1200 seat theater. It sounded REALLY good.

Who had Herman’s Hermits with Peter Noone on their bingo card?

He’s playing Niagara Fallsview Casino for the zillionth time in October.
2 matinee shows and one evening show for us younger fans in our 60s.

I saw Suede last year and they were fantastic.

Mrs jbj saw them both a couple of years ago at Edinburgh Castle, I was in Belfast for some mid-Summer musical entertainment of a different vibe :jogger: so missed it but she said it was a great gig.

Squared my pal up for the tickets in the pub the other night, £70 each, seems to be the minimum rate now for any reasonably big band.

My local pub has a new owner and she's trying some different things, there's an Oasis tribute tonight that should be fun.

Oasis tribute were good.

Full scale fight broke out, authentic experience :embarrassed: and my mate invited a tinder date he'd never met so I spent most of the night stood listening to them chat and drop a comment in now and again not trying to steal his thunder

Took the eldest child to see Amelie Farren at the Swedish American Hall in SF Friday eve. Good show, small crowd, but good energy. And for being just a kid herself, Amelie was charming, gracious, and took time to meet with literally all the fans after the show was done. Opener was a SF local act, Gavriella. Also a good show, lots of fun.

As mentioned in another thread, gonna go see Social Distortion in September too. Fox Theater in Oakland, with a stop by Drake's Dealership for the pregame.
