Whats your favorite "music" movie?

[Mark Wein]

Not sure. The Blues Brothers is one for me.

The lower tier is:

Spinal Tap
Cadillac Records
Walk the Line
I am trying to break your heart

[Kerouac]

If we're just talking fictional, it's absolutely That Thing You Do.

But I don't think I've watched any music documentary more times than I Am Trying To Break Your Heart. I watch it every couple of months!

[Mark Wein]

ooh...I forgot about That Thing You Do...thas a good one too.

Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters!

The Sound of Music
Grease
Xanadu

[OGG]

Rattle and Hum.

[Tiltsta]

That Thing You Do gets my vote. I really like that movie.

I also really liked the newest Rush documentary, if you want to go more 'real music' in interpretation.

Rattle and Hum.

another one I loved and forgot about.

Whats funny about that one is that I HATED U2 when that was released so it took me about 15 years to get around to finally seeing it and then I was hooked.

Blues Brothers is probably at the top of the list for me, but I haven't seen many of the other mentioned.

Of course, the RUSH documentary is in my collection.
I also just watched the first disc of "Taking Center Stage: A Lifetime of Live Performance" which is a Neil Peart focused documentary of the songs on the Time Machine Tour and life on the road, drum tech stuff, how he prepares for a show, etc.
It's pretty interesting even for sane... I mean non-drummers.

[Modern Saint]

All of the above plus:

Rockstar
The Buddy Holly Story
La Bamba

[Modern Saint]

Forgot to add "A Mighty Wind". Need this one next to Spinal Tap

[Phil513]

Amadeus

[rjenkins]

Without debating the merit of other films (though I really loved That Thing You Do), how about a little opera by the name of "Tommy?"

Quadraphenia

[Elias Graves]

Real: It Might Get Loud
Fake: Blues Brothers

[sunvalleylaw]

Blues Brothers, The Commitments, and kind of embarrassed to say it, The Sound of Music. This is discounting documentaries and the like of course.

[Aahzz]

Let me add "Almost Famous" to the list...

[Tralfaz]

I'm not really sure what the definition of a music movie is but....

A Hard Day's Night
Yellow Submarine
Moulin Rouge!
Spinal Tap

This on both counts.

Of course This Is Spinal Tap, the Blues Brothers and Foo Fighters Back and Forth are up there.

[BlackCat]

The Howlin Wolf Story. No question.
