So I’ve bought several “season packs” from Hot Ones….

Fans of the Youtube show “Hot Ones” know that you can play along at home by ordering the full lineup of sauces from Heatonist.

They try to promote good, natural, tasty, hot sauces so you don’t have to be a scoville whore like me to enjoy. I’ve found several that my wife loves to put on eggs, pizza, sandwiches, and even enhances our San Marzano marinara recipe or our beer infused chili with.

But the one that generally breaks everyone is “DaBomb: Beyond Insanity”.

Because Heatonist sauces are all natural, the multipacks include a ‘version’ of DaBomb caled “Revolution”. It’s still painful, borderline vile, but reviewers say it spares tasters from the metallic, almost battery acid, aftertaste of the original. So for the sake of science… I ordered a bottle.

It did NOT disappoint.

I have consumed sauces with ten fold the scoville rating… but nothing can prepare you for the no-bullshit assault it does to your senses.

Eye watering, nose running, and it…. Just…. Lingers….. I’m telling you it is the food equivalent of radioactive waste!

Didn’t drink any water or milk on purpose for the first few minutes to really take in the experience… but after the wing flavor had faded and I was still sucking in air, I finally took a big drink to try and curb it some. Even 15 or 20 minutes later there was still a metallic taste that just refused to go away. I took a shot of pure Lime Juice and it cut it in half, so at least that remedy has been tested and confirmed. :baimun:

I like a bit of hotness, and occasionally a big bit of hotness. But there is a point that once I go beyond it, I am no longer having fun. So I have no interest in anything in "Da Bomb's"
class.

All three of these are delicious (even my wife agrees), and none of them approach that pain area.... we burn through the Verde one at a 2:1 ratio to the others... but the chipotle adobo flavor of the Barbacoa one has really grown on us and become a mutual favorite. You will like the Regular Los Calientes if you want something different from the chipotle neighborhood like Cholula.

Senor Lechuga is a medium, but has an amazing smokey heat with a touch of... I wanna say sweet but it's more like the way caramelized onions are "sweet". Not for every type of food, but one of my absolute favorites for tamales and eggs.

Bhutila Fire is definitely up there in heat, but is absolutely delicious. It's a hot verde that I put on enchiladas, potatoes, and tacos.

Those all look interesting, haven't seen any of them.

I love how so many hot sauces use Spanglish as an indicator of hotness.

Season 16's lineup was probably the best flavor profiles front to back....

But I'm telling you from last night's experience, the scoville rating of DaBomb is not indicative of what's going on there. Some kind of liquid evil is in that bottle along with the hot sauce.

# HOT SAUCE SCOVILLE RATING (SHU)
1 Hot Ones The Classic Hot Sauce 1,700
2 Yellowbird Bliss & Vinegar Hot Sauce 6,200
3 Hoff & Pepper Hoff's House Sauce Hot Sauce 14,500
4 Hot Ones Los Calientes Verde Hot Sauce 36,000
5 Hot Heads Official Revolutionary Hot Sauce 57,000
6 Señor Lechuga .718 Hot Sauce 67,000
7 Chile Lengua De Fuego Bhutila Fire Hot Sauce 118,000
8 Da' Bomb Beyond Insanity Hot Sauce 135,600 (yeah right...)
9 Hellfire Hot Sauce Kranked Hot Sauce 699,000
10 Hot Ones The Last Dab Apollo Hot Sauce 2,000,000+

Last Dab Apollo kicks harder on the front end.... but it does not punish you for a half hour like DaBomb.

I would compare the two like the time I had a wisdom tooth taken out without full numbing versus having both big toenails slooowwwly pulled out with channel locks by a sadistic torturer. :helper:

2 Yellowbird Bliss & Vinegar Hot Sauce 6,200
...

Yellowbird is my neighbor! Made in San Marcos, TX. It says Austin on the label, but that's a bit of a stretch.

I haven't tried the Bliss & Vinegar. Currently I'm hooked on the green Serrano variety. It's pretty mild, a good sauce with breakfast and chicken tacos or sandwiches.

There are two Yellowbird sauces that are favorites of my wife. I need to order her a three pack wth her two faves and a new one

same ....I'm after flavor and some heat. When I want the eye watering , ear opening, nose opening I will get some S&B hot mustard powder...whip that up and go to town
