The perfect guitar?

It's question day at MWGL, I guess :embarrassed:

Some folks have an ideal instrument. I don't think I can narrow things down...how about you guys? WHat would be or is the perfect instrument for you?

i've really gotten it down to my PRS. i'll play other instruments depending on my mood or what style i'm trying to trick my fingers into playing (never works), but it always comes back to that one.

as for acoustics, i hit the nail on the head and stopped looking any further with my Taylor.

For me, I think the Strat body shape is perfect. It's just so comfortable to play. I do like my bridge humbucker tones though, and having a nice stable tremolo is a plus. Also, moving the stupid volume knob out of the way is a must.

So, I guess this is my perfect guitar:

I'm stuck between my Les Paul and the Suhr Classic strat.

I love my Guild DV52 for the acoustic but I could probably find a better acoustic out there, I just don't have the budget and I don't it it enough to warrant upgrading. Having said that I haven't played very many guitars that are better...

I can't really narrow it down either, as it depends a lot on what I'm playing.
There's not really a guitar that can cover everything in the sounds department.

Playability wise the EBMM Luke was perfect for me. Übercomfy neck, lightweight, great trem. Soundwise it covered a lot of "terrain", like a HSS Strat will do. But for some stuff I really do need that typical Tele sound (clean or slightly distorted), and the EBMM couldn't really do the LP-like crunch sounds (the EMG pickups were a bit too hot).

So, this far the guitar I've had that covered the most bases was the Parker, as that can do basically everything apart from the Tele sound (which really rules for pop/rock rhythm tracks).

I'm starting to get the idea that as guitarists if we admit that we have the ultimate instrument it will destroy our excuse to buy more guitars :embarrassed:

I haven't bought a guitar since September 08, and that was the US Masters which was redundant, but too good a price to pass up.

Yeah, there's that as well.

But seriously, playing covers and such live, you really do need to cover a lot of sounds and one guitar will never quite get there. But almost

I agree that you'll always want another sound that your current guitar can't get. Having said that, I've been into my PRS since 1991 or so, and it's the only shape that my body is totally comfortable playing.

I've always had the whole "different tools for different jobs" aesthetic but I own an awesome Tele that almost never gets played on gigs...I own 4 strats and three of them almost never leave the studio.....

My last guitar acquisition was the Ibanez that I traded Platypus for a few months ago and before that it was the Suhr Tele in 2007. I've seen guitars I want but I realy can't justify buying anything anymore. :(

I already have it. Only thing that'd make it better would be if it was green. I'm still doing a lot of trading because I enjoy it, but that's with a variety of other stuff...would love to get another just like it as a backup, maybe....or a McCarty Korina as a backup with a slightly different flavor...but the SB is my perfect guitar.

I don't think it exists... I go back and forth between my guitars on a daily basis. Ever since I changed the strings on my LP and cleaned it up, it's been my fav... but then again, my Jackson always feels like a breath of fresh air whenever I pick up. Then there's my Charvel... just a great player that could be the ultimate workhorse...

of course, i'm happy with a guitar that stays in tune and has great feel to it

I do have to say that you guys are wearing down my aversion to PRS guitars, but I don't have the budget anymore for one that I think would make me happy....

Well, I'm not sure that it's perfect, but I'm really into my Tele w/ the humbucker in the neck and the S-1 switching.

I've never played one, but as far as objects of lust go, for electric guitars, I'd really love to have something like Richard Thompson's Ferrington.

As for acoustics... I recently put myself on the waitlist for Linda Manzer's waitlist. We'll see how that goes.
