This may be our biggest stage yet...

Wow, you are really upstate. I used to go to school in Montpelier; it looks like you are north of there.

Have a great time, whether you play or not.
My house is on a dirt road that runs into a farm in Quebec after about 2/3 a mile. We're on the edge of the country up here!

I'm just psyched to have a chance to hang out backstage at such a big show.

It's 11:30 - Just getting in from tonight's gig and going to try to sleep. Alarm clock set for 5am so I can make some breakfast and get to the gig tomorrow at 7am.

Sleep is overrated, right?

Welp, I'm not sure how this ended up 'cause I bugged out, but here's how it went when I was there...

Arrived just before 7am to learn "we were back on the bill" for 9:30am. OK, cool.

The big stage was freekin awesome. This was the real deal.

Problem: the big stage and its backline was off limits for the local bands and the regional bands.

Stu and Bill ran up on stage for a quick shot at the big time. We have other pictures of the whole band up there, but we were not destined to play the big stage.

Solution: One of the local bands brought their gear, so everyone would use that gear.

Problem: No one asked the local band about that.

Anyway, onward. Supposedly a flatbed had been ordered for the local bands. It showed up, lol.

Problem: It was pretty much big enough for a coupla lawn tractors.

View from the big stage of the little stage:

Solution: An additional "flatbed" was on its way. It showed up.

LOL.

As time wore on, it became apparent that things were getting delayed. The local/regional sound guy (who was incredibly good, btw) needed an hour to get everything going. We were bumped and the first act was to be a regional act, a young lady named Caroline Gray and her band. Many power issues later, they started. They were really good. REALLY good. The small crowd was appreciative.

Next up was the Southern City Band, a regional act. They were very talented, but I wish they had a bass player. The drummer was starting and stopping bass tracks. Sorry, but I think a bass player is something you shouldn't skimp on.

In the middle of their set, Vince Neil's band sound checked and blew them out.

Not cool.

Next act on the trailer was Alec Macgillvray. Absolutely kicked ass. Great, great band. I'd go see this band if he comes around again.

It was obvious our services weren't needed, I was tired.... It was also obvious we wouldn't be schmoozing with the national acts so I bugged out and went home.

Just took a call from my drummer, who stayed...

All big name acts pulled out of the show. Two of the local bands were still there, one took to the big stage and was rocking out pretty hard, trying to salvage the gig (for free, mind you)... and they pulled the power on 'em mid set. The big stage was then being packed up.

I guess the two remaining local bands are setting up on the trailer and playing for free for the people remaining.

I can't get in touch with our singer/guitar player so we ain't going back.

Too bad. I hate to see this kind of stuff and I hope it doesn't take money away from the charity work the Shriners do.

:(

that really suxx.
Yeah, it does.

I hate to see a charitable organization take a hit like that.

And Vince Neil's band is a bunch of dooshes for sound checking in the middle of another band playing a song. I don't care who you are, that's bullshit. I love some old school Crüe, but I'll never see him on purpose from here on out.

Wtf.

What kind of band goes out on a multi-band show without a bassist? And tracks, instead?

IF you're not gonna be a real band, don't take a real band's place.

As you can imagine, there is a Facebook shitstorm over this. The promoter is blaming the power generator. He's having a tough go of it because there were bands playing and they pulled the plug on em mid song.

They had everything in place, the venue was real; they had security, vendors, parking, porta potties, etc... The planning for the local/regional acts was bad, but whatever.

The two local bands that stuck it out are really good people and I hope they get some good karma their way for their efforts.
