This may be our biggest stage yet...

The Modern Country band I'm in (Big Whiskey Social Club) was signed on as a "backup band" for this show several months ago. What that meant was we'd be there all day, and if an act couldn't go on, we'd get the nod. It seemed like it'd be a fun gig if we got a chance to play. Worst case scenario would be hanging out backstage and getting to meet some past heroes.

Just found out at our gig last night we're going to play, in fact, we're opening the show.

At 9:30AM.

This may be the first gig I've ever had to set an alarm clock for so I could show up on time. Probably be drinking coffee on stage, lol. Anyway, we're all psyched to play and be part of the show.

That's an interesting lineup for a country band to open for...

...do me a favor and let me know if Mark Slaughter has lost any weight...last time I saw him he must have been tipping the scales at right around 300...

yea......country band opening for hard rock hair bands of the 80's.......hmmmmm
are you sure this isn't a prank?
maybe open with some country Skynyrd.

It is.

The thing about Modern Country is that it's really become the pop of today. As such, it's cross-generational and I've found most audiences to be receptive to it.

Anyway, there are other country acts on the bill: Caroline Gray, Southern City Band (sorta country) and Alec MacGillivray.

Yeah, it's real. In this area, you need some country bands to fill out a bill, trust me.

We do play some Skynyrd (who doesn't, lol), but I doubt we'll be playing any during our set for this.

Cool that you'll be playing that show!! How far is that venue from Boston, approximately?

Gotta ask, what's with the Masons (?) symbol. Are they one and the same as the Shriners? I'm not hip to those groups in any way.

Yeah, it's awesome! I can be to the Logan airport in just over 3 hours.

My only interaction has been with the show promoter, and that's been brief. I don't know much (actually anything) about the Shriners or Masons. Maybe someone here knows more?

9:30 start time...so you'll be loading in around sunrise, lol?

That should be a fun day. You'll be done and able to relax, hangout and party with Vince, Slaughter and Warrant. Back in the day, you'd have had quite a selection of discarded groupies to peruse. These days, who knows?

As a former member of a Modern Country band 20 years ago (now there's an oxymoron), most of the difference between Modern Country and Southern Rock was where the gain level was set.

MILFs or even GILFs reliving their youth?

Still cool. Maybe the new opening act will sleep through their alarms.

Did you practice your Jimi Hendrix style national anthem just in case you get back to opening the show?

Shriners are a sub-sect of Masons. All Shriners are Masons, not all Masons are Shriners. But all of them are secretly plotting to turn our world over to Luciferian space lizards. The Shriners simply hatch their plots and schemes while behind the wheel of tiny cars.

Based on the headliners for this show, wagdog may need some anti-lizard-person defense systems.

So to be there for 7am, I have to get up at 5am. We have a 7-10 gig the night before. Probably get to bed at midnight.

Still, worth it!

Wow, you are really upstate. I used to go to school in Montpelier; it looks like you are north of there.

Have a great time, whether you play or not.
