The unofficial MWGL forum census...

We did this once before and with all the new members it seems like a good time to do it again...so what I'd like you all to do is share a little something about your REAL self with the others...you are, of course, free to skip anything you feel is too revealing...

So, if you are willing, please tell us the following:

Your real first name and age
marital status and children
where you live
what you do for a living
your favorite food
hobbies

tell us who your favorite musicians are, who influenced you, why you play
your band and what your playlist looks like

tell us a bit about your equipment, pics are always welcome

what other forumites do you know, have met in person, talked to on the telephone

I'll start...

I'm david, 48 years old
Single no kids that I know of
Bloomingburg, NY (Orange County)
I drive a van
I like Italian, spaghetti, pizza, and my mom's meatloaf...
I do some woodwork, shooting, and reading...

I first heard Aerosmith when I was 10 years old, and the sound of Joe Perry's guitar hooked me for life...I went on to develop a taste for the blues and classic rock, as well as some jazz and Classic era symphonies...

My last band was in college, it was called Farmer Brown and the Livestock...I was a cow...we played a lot of Aerosmith, Zep, ZZ top, Ted Nugent, Nazareth, Black Sabbath...

This is my current line up of guitars...

...amps...

...and effects...

I've met Modern Saint (Randy) and Gary Blanchard face to face...I've spoken to Mark on Skype...I've talked extensively on the phone with Elias Graves, Diceman1000, Silverring223, and the late and very missed Zemmy...and I've had one memorable conversation with 12pack, who I wish would call me again...

OK, that's about it...your turn...

Andy, 30 years old
Single, no children, one dog (Ginsberg) and one cat (Murphy)
Just outside of Cincinnati, OH
Musician. I mainly teach but supplement my income with recording and mixing work.
Macaroni and Cheese
I play video games, Dungeons and Dragons, and read quite a bit. I'm trying to add exercise to that list. :embarrassed:

I play because of the Beatles. They changed my life.
I'm also heavily influenced by Ani DiFranco, Tom Waits, Iron & Wine, and Metallica.

I play in a metal band called As Rome Burns. We've had one gig in five years. The primary songwriter has a development deal with an indie label, but hasn't been able to deliver a final product. We keep plugging away at it though.

I write my own material too, although right now I'm having an identity crisis. I've written some great hard rock material and while I normally play more acoustic and folk, I think I really need to do this product as there is some commercial potential. And rocking out is fun too. :embarrassed:

I won't post pics, but I have 40 stringed instruments (soon to be 41) with acoustic ones slightly edging out the rest. I have an old piano from the 1900s that hasn't been tuned in four years, but still sounds great. I have a drum set and I have a lot of recording gear. Only five amps, but I use a lot of modeling software.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the forumites I've met! I've been really fortunate to meet a lot of them... apologies if I've left anyone out!

This may be a shock, but my real first name is Chad.
I am 42, married with 2 girls, 9 and 7.
I live in the DC area
After 13 years in IT, I am now a project manager for a fence company.
I don't think I really have a favorite food, but I love Mexican food and Pizza.
Other than music, the only hobby I have is doing anything my kids want to.

Growing up, my dad was always playing guitar, so I picked it up from him. It is really hard to pick out influences, I think I am influenced in one way or another by everything I have ever listened to. I think if I had to pick a guitar player or band that I sond most like, it would be Peter Buck/REM.

Right now, I have a Ric 620, a parts build Esquire, an old Harmony Sovereign acoustic and a Mustang Bass. For amps I am using a VHT Special 12/22 and a GK RB400.

Al, 37 years old
Divorced no kids, but I have two cats Annie Oakley and FUB (Fat Ugly Baby)
I have a girlfriend named Annie who works at Oakley (I had the cat first)
And she has two teenage daughters who call me stepdad
I live in Orange California, but I am originally from Cleveland and I actually grew up in Toronto Canada
I am the Manager of Orange Cycle, but at one point I was a pro rider and a hotshot bike developer for Specialized
My favorite foods are Italian, Mexican, Chinese and good old merican
My hobbies are Mountain Biking, BMX, Comic Books, Star Wars, Star Trek and anything else fucking nerdy.

My Mother listened to rock and my Stepfather liked old time country and bluegrass. When I was around 7 I would throw Ace of Spades on the record player and the next thing would be George Jones.
I do not know if that influences me as a guitar player, because I only recently started taking lessons from Mark.

My favorite band is Clutch, because they were my first band that I listened to when they started as a hardcore band and 20 years later they have been everything from Metal to Blues rock and even some Jazz Funk

Here my shit but the Bass belongs to Andy
photo (15) - Copy.jpg
I have been fortunate to meet Mark Wein, my teacher and friend, Jaxn Slim, Modern Saint and Telecaster911

Brian, 52
1 wife, no kids
Houston, TX
Information Manager for an EPC contracting company
Too many favorite foods to list. Lately I have been really keen on Indian.
Astronomy, photography, golf

Musical influences - Grateful Dead, old-school prog, and the usual for my age group including Stones Who Beatles etc.
No bands since the 80s, life got in the way. I like to play the stuff listed above, plus finger style blues on the acoustic.

Only forumite I have met is Jaxn - he was good enough to arrange a meetup when he was down here a while back. He's good people.

Gear - a Martin OM-1 and these:

Your real first name and age - Dave, 47 next week
marital status and children - married, 3 kids, 5 grand kids (stop doing the math)
where you live - in the heart of the Niagara Region, St. Catharines, Ontario
what you do for a living - Sales Engineer for network and communications manufacturer
your favorite food - Bacon (surprise!)
hobbies - MOPAR cars, guitars, magic, DIY electronics (amps pedals and other stuff) and computers (building, modding, a bit of programming)

tell us who your favorite musicians are, who influenced you, why you play
SRV, Big Sugar, Wide Mouth Mason, Colin James, Teenage Head (back in the day), RUSH
Not sure about specific influences, but the SRV style of blues guitar is what I always seem to want to play, but I'm not one to try and play other's music specifically. I start with something and let my brain and my lack of ability shape it into something that works.

your band and what your playlist looks like - no band

tell us a bit about your equipment, pics are always welcome
Too much according certain people.

what other forumites do you know, have met in person, talked to on the telephone
Haven't met anyone on person.
Through Skype classes, I've met Mark, Tommy Harkenrider, Reverend, Howie, Paulie.... Crap... There's a couple more. Sorry. Only one coffee so far.

Your real first name and age - Steve T. - 50
marital status and children - married since '94, 3 kids, Boy 15, Boy 13, Girl almost 10
where you live - Hailey, Idaho, near Sun Valley
what you do for a living - Lawyer, run a kid's non-competitive ski/snowboard team
your favorite food - Depends. I'll say something I can put salsa or cholula on for now.
hobbies - skiing, mountain biking, guitar, and waterskiing in that order, plus I love to do a lot of other active outdoor stuff.

tell us who your favorite musicians are, who influenced you, why you play - That is a whole 'nuther thread. I tend toward indy, garagey, punky, grungey sounds when I want to rock, like jazz and even show tunes, and really, enjoy most music. Why I play? I used to play piano as a kid, love music, so started guitar in midlife with the hope of making music for fun and enjoyment, and maybe performing a little, for fun only.

your band and what your playlist looks like - no band right now. My playlist, had i a band, would include some Clash and Ramones, some pearl jam and other seattle-esque sounds, some Wilco, some kinks or something like that, maybe Watchtower Hendrix-ish style, since we started to learn it in Mark's class, and it is fun to play, maybe some jack johnson (random, right?), some blues, something a little jazzy, some Neil Young, I don't know what else. Oh, and some bluegrass flatpicking amplified with distortion, at punk speeds. (like this, but faster and better than this: https://www.box.com/files/0/f/0/1/f_396609384)

tell us a bit about your equipment, pics are always welcome - in order of acquisition, Joshua acoustic, 2006 MIM 60th Ann strat, Peavey Classic 30, Hagstrom Viking, Martin SPD-16TR, Fender Concert, Squire CVC tele, various pedals over the years, etc.

what other forumites do you know, have met in person, talked to on the telephone - Mark in person at the Blue Beat bar. Via Skype, Howie, Rev1, Dodgechargerfan, altoidman, paulskirocks. All great guys!

Your real first name and age: Mike, 43
Marital status and children: Single, never married, no kids
Where you live: Albuquerque, New Mexico
What you do for a living: Website administrator
Your favorite food: (New) Mexican
Hobbies: Girls, cars and guitars, not necessarily always in that order.

Tell us who your favorite musicians are, who influenced you, why you play: Ace Frehley made me want to play but I lost interest in KISS quickly. These days (last 20 years or so) guys like Richard Thompson and Dave Rawlings make me want to slam my fingers in a car door and give up. And Don "Buck Dharma" Roeser will always be a favorite.

Your band and what your playlist looks like: Danceable R&B and poppy classic rock. Old people covers.

What other forumites do you know, have met in person, talked to on the telephone: I know Jaxn reasonably well. I've met Kerouac and Gibby, and had a few near misses with Mark and Oscar. I've also met a couple of the guys from HCGJ who don't seem to be active on here at all.

Tell us a bit about your equipment, pics are always welcome:

2000 Fender American Standard Stratocaster
1998 Fender California Series Telecaster
