the "I don't get it" thread

Yes and no. He's very impressive, but I can't take him for more than a couple of songs. And in most instances, I'd be very negative about players like that. But he can be terrific as a sideman.

Agreed. The best part about Jeff Beck albums isn't Jeff Beck. Though he is undeniably an excellent guitarist with few equals.

haha yeah that's not really fair

Beck on those 70's floyd albums would've been pretty bflasdlhralsherrrrrrrrr

Some incredible playing from Jeff Beck on this one. Gilmour couldn't have done better.

My favorite Waters solo album...maybe the only I really love. Radio KAOS didn't grab me and Pros and Cons was proof of how Pink Floyd was about so much more than Roger Waters. He was just one piece of the complete picture. I much prefer Gilmour's solo stuff in general, but prefer Floyd overall with or without Rogers.

Yeah, I think they both became pretty lame after the split.

Though I've enjoyed Waters's tours much more than Floyd or solo Gilmour.

Comic books and comic book movies. I don't mind that people enjoy them but it's a bit much when they're everywhere all the time.

The current trap pop/whatever-it-is pop paradigm we're in now. Boring, not catchy, joyless.

I honestly don't know if I have ever heard Jeff beck. Other than some documentary type video I watched with him.

Back to free jazz here.

I don't see where anyone " needs" to have a starting point to get into some type of music. It's always like "well, you know,...you really should start off with this,.... this was accessible, before you get to this. Otherwise it sounds like trash..."

Why does musical "enjoyment" have to be some sort of aural Stockholm Syndrome?

Count me happily out.

I was going to state that there is no comfort zone in ignorance for me to another comment here, but I realised that at least in music there is.

And Dexter won the interwebs for his comment on Wilco/Radiohead :)

I don't get how so many people on a guitar forum don't get Jeff Beck.

I also don't get the myopic perspective of folks about things other people are passionate about. This may seem in response to previous posts, but it's really not. I'm thinking about the jocks and sports geeks who thought music, science, theater, comics, etc. geeks were less mature, adult, manly, etc. And that goes back and forth, where science geeks think jocks or art lovers are foolish and you can add more variables and mix and match components. Why does anyone care enough to concern themselves with the likes of other people. It's all an escape of some sort. Even working musicians have passions outside of music to keep from going crazy and getting burned out.

Except for country music and racists! Fuck that shit and its fan/supporters! Obviously I'm kidding, racists are good people. :thu:
