the "I don't get it" thread

I can't get past the album title. is it a statement that brewing is done by bitches? or a typo that meant to indicate the brew belonged to bitches (i.e., bitch's brew)? or is it not a typo and the possessive of bitch or bitches does not require an apostrophe for some esoteric grammatical reason?

I still don't understand what's good about the blues in general. I mean it isn't bad music and it seems important to learn, but don't people get sick of the same progression in every song? (Spoken from a shocking level of ignorance regarding the blues - just what I have observed.)

I'll go first.

What is the real deal with this record?

I was at Boston Ballet last night with Mrs F and the last piece was set to Bitches Brew.

I don't get it...I was not thrilled to see what the music would be, but I approached it with an open mind. Knowing I would be in a seat and could not leave, I'd have a chance to listen to it all the way through and revisit it.

Didn't work. To me, it's still unlistenable. Nothing to latch on to. A lot of noise and atonal bleating set to a random rhythm that only sporadically approached a groove.

What am I missing?

I bought that on Vinyl from a used record store back around 1990 and the guy who rung me up and older guy said "if it starts skipping on you don't bring it back...that's just the way it sounds"

For me...... Beyonce'.

I don't find any of her songs that enjoyable to listen to. She has a quality voice based on songs recorded with Destiny's Child, but in her solo songs, she's either shouty or doing vocal gymnasics runs. ugh.

But then people say "she's such a good dancer..." Kinda reminds me of a short-circuited sex robot. shakes and convulses.. then squats and marches. Just.... weird.

Here's one I don't get: The "your speed" signs. I have a speedometer right there in front of me on the dashboard. What purpose is the digital sign serving?

I've never cared for her voice. While she can sing I don;t like the timbre of her voice not to mention that she's not a "great" singer. There are so many vastly better singers and many of them actually write music, play instruments, etc. It's not a don't get it thing, as I totally understand how well she's packaged and promoted and to whom...it's just to or for me.:thu:

we have a lot of them that sit next to a speed limit sign... then show your actual speed.. and then flash "SLOW DOWN!!!"

... or at least that's what they do when I drive by. :embarrassed:

Didn't get it when they came out, still don't get it now. I've listened to each of their albums and just don't find it interesting.
Ha ha, the first thing I thought of posting when I started reading this thread was a link to the Radiohead thread. You beat me to it. :thu:
