The acronym super list

Half of the production line at my business has areas labeled as "FAP"... :eek:

I worked here for a few months thinking "Have these people never been on the internet before?"

... Then I found out it stood for "Finish After Paint"... so basically all of the construction and electrical that goes in after vehicles go through the paint booth. Makes sense... but I would have gone with AaP (Assembly after Paint) or something else. :wink:

When I first encountered it in a training presentation, there was no reference to what it stands for. While I knew that I likely knew what it was, I had just not seen the actual term expressed as an acronym.

The first thing that popped into my head was, “Pointy Haired Boss” (Dilbert reference).

Of course, once that was in my head, I couldn’t set it aside and think of any other meaning.
So, I had to ask for a reminder.

It stands for “Per-Hop Behaviour” in context of networking.

In auto repair it's PEBSWABS
Problem exists between steering wheel and bucket seat. My uncle used to say that all the time.
"Diagnostic code was PEBSWABS"

You work on cars, what is it with Land Rover owners? My friend had one, it was always breaking down, he always bitched about how bad it was, then traded it in for a newer one and bought his wife one knowing they are complete pieces of shit and they will spend more time in the shop than on the road. The amount of times I have taken him out to his mechanic is crazy.
 
Technically a lot of these are not acronyms. An acronym, as I understand it, has to be pronounceable as a word, like NASA or SHIELD. So CIA and FBI would not be acronyms. Nor would TLA.

Chad...this is a perfect question for me as I hate the fucki ng P.O.S. AND I have first hand insight of not only Rover owners but British car owners in general....they all without question arte fanatical about their vehichle be it a Jag, an MG, a mini or especially Rover.
Up until my new boss/new owner took over I had only encou tered 1 Land rover (a range rover of early 90's era) in all my wrenching years when the new owner took over August of 19 I have become way more aquainted than i care to be. we have probably 15 at the shop in various states of disrepair...these are the owners BUT we have customers bringing them in too. The majority are the late 80's to about 2002. Discoveries are probably slightly worse than Range rovers but they both suck and I HAVE YET to see a Rover of any era that does not have a problem. More so it is not uncommon to fix a problem and immediatly another problem arises...electrical glitches up the ass, leaks everywhere, rattles, noises, interior and exterior parts falling apart, seats that don't work...you name it AND the owners don't even flinch. The Rover is expensive to repair, it is time consuming and way way over engineered .
I think it might be an issue where the owners are just love blind or it's mental illness...OR they are just into twisted S&M in that they Rover is their dungeon master.

FBI = Fibby
TLA = Tlah!
