TGP Blooze Police ripping on 13 yo shred prodigy

I really don't understand the need for people to hate on a player just because they don't like the style of music they're playing. (Which is kinda what Mark was trying to say in that thread, I think.) That kid's fucking great! I'm not really into that style of music, I don't really care for Gilbert, Vai, Satriani, etc., but that doesn't in any way change or detract from the level of talent those guys have. I'm not a huge fan of modern country either, but that doesn't mean that Brad Paisley or Keith Urban aren't good players.

Shit always annoys me.

Agreed.

no disagreements here. the kid is 13, obviously talented, and showing off for Bogner. plenty of time for him to become the next Kurdt Rosentinkle.

I was a child prodigy, and have heard dozens of others, so call me a little more skeptical.

He's far from the best 13-year-old I've ever heard, but that's an unfair standard to hold any 13-year-old musician to.

He's the only 10 year old I've heard who can shred Gilbert solos like an adult, which was why I was so impressed by his playing. He played stuff that would impress me if he was twice that age.

The first time I heard him I was impressed by his positive touch, he really sounded like he meant it. He's continued in the same vein since then, but I'm waiting to see how he progresses. I could see him doing some pretty cool stuff if he got into a jazzier direction, or at least a kind of music that demanded improvisational skills.

The most likely scenario is that he'll be like a guitar-playing Tony Royster Jr. Peaking too soon, and not evolving much after those early teen years.

But I've got my hopes up for the lad.

You always see amazing 10 year olds on the bluegrass circuit, for some reason, if you ever go to a festival or anything like that.

Probably because it tends to be a tight-knit and family-based kind of thing, I guess.

...... Or how they would fare in a jam with him.

I think most of us here could be pwned by this kid's talent. Some mad skills on display there. I know people who try to play that stuff and can't get through a sweep or two, let alone play it through a clean amp. Matter of fact, any Guitar Center on a Saturday AM could have a small horde of wannabe's trying to do the same thing with a whole pile of distortion.

Baimun would like his guitar...flamed top, rosewood neck w/ no fret markers.....

It's worth noting how many bluegrass outfits are made up of brothers or entire families just fucking ripping it up.

I don't have a sister, but if I did, and she looked and played like one of the Cherryholmes sisters...yeah, you know, maybe.

I remember going to a bluegrass festival in Arizona in the early 1990's and no one on stage or off looked like that, played like that or sang in tune.

I need to go to some bluegrass shows :embarrassed:

I also have a thing for the MILFy fiddler from the Steeldrivers. She displays a more formidable bow grip.

One of my favourite local festivals is the Appalachian Fest. Lots of good music, folk crafts and very, very lovely girls showing some skin and skirt.
