Peavey Classic 30 opinions

Yeah, I'll do a NAD. I've been too busy playing around with it. I'm diggin' it so far. Getting some great tones with a strat plugged straight in...no pedals required. Damn this thing can get loud from a single 12" speaker. I bet it'd sound awesome through a 2x12 cab. I know, it's still early in the honeymoon, but so far worth every penny spent. :thu:

I just did a search on the local kijiji and there's a white one for $400.

Another "never gigged" ad is asking $700.

You scored.

$110 is a silly score on one of those. I listed my Fender Concert for sale because I felt I could do what I needed with mine, and perhaps an extension cab if I ever wanted one. Not that it is a vintage Fender, not saying that. Just that they are dang nice little amps that are very serviceable and I think have a nice sound. Since you said it was older, it probably has the older look like mine as opposed to the newer look with the tolex dipping into the front with the logo enclosed within on a little oval?

(old pic, I am the old guy with the strat, next to the old guy with the Martin (my instructor at the time) with some of his younger, more talented students.).

Issues: Some people like to change out the speakers. I never have. The amp sounds great straight in as you found out, but takes pedals really well and seems less picky about it than my Fender. You can get a "tube rattle" particularly on the older ones with certain lower tones or if things are shaking around because you are making the ladies dance with your guitar riff awesomeness. They have aftermarket things called tube tamers for that. I use one as I was getting a little rattle at one time. Not any more.

Also, you can get a little screw on grill thing to protect the tubes hanging down in the open back of the cab if you are concerned about that. I never have worried about it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TubeGuard-for-PEAVEY-CLASSIC-30-Amplifier-MojoAxe-TUBE-GUARD-Protector-Shield/181531041991?_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982&_trkparms=aid=777000&algo=ABA.MBE&ao=1&asc=35935&meid=602a519955064f9698d787877639c466&pid=100009&rk=1&rkt=1&mehot=ag&sd=252340712188

Enjoy! That is an awesome score! Even though I have one, for a hundred and ten, I might have snagged it myself!

Exactly. It looks a lot like yours in fact, with the old-style pointy Peavey logo on it. Here's a pic of the front.

That looks great! I prefer the older style. Some people like to take the logo off so it looks more Fendery, but not me. I am very excited for you on that score. If you don't like it, I would think you could sell it for more than double what you paid for it easily.

I'm here, for reference, are a couple pictures of mine so you can see what a tube tamer looks like installed. As you can see, I do not have the tube guard. You can also see what my stock speaker looks like. Seems to me that yours looks pretty stock and for whatever reason it just does not have the sticker on the magnet. I also included a picture of my sticker with the serial number which looks different from yours. I have not looked mine up yet to see what year it is from. EDIT, looking again at the sticker, it seems to say 2003 right there, which is about what I remembered from speaking to the seller when I bought it, out of SLC in 2006.

For $110? Score and a half - I'd buy a broken one for $100 (but I do fix amps, so there's that).

The C30 is a great little amp. I'd play it for a while to get a feel and then consider a speaker swap (or not).

I have a C50 2x12 at my bands practice spot. Beat to shit, but sounds like a million bucks (and I paid $60 for it as a box of parts).

HNAD! I dig mine and got an equally great deal on mine from CL. Great amp for gigging or jams, when you don't want to haul out a bigger amp. They're nice and light. At least compared to my Hayseed 30 2x12. Mine is a newer one. I think the newer style ones were/are built in Mexico? I've never bothered with another speaker in it, though I might try out that Vintage 30 I just picked up.

$110? Damn. I spent almost that much on dinner out with the family last week. Why don't I ever come across that kind of deal?

Excellent score.

I've got an old C30 that paid $200 for (I did put a Celestion G12H30 in mine). If I could only have one amp, it's probably the one if choose.

I also have a C30 head that I paid $350 for.

Had a chance to try it out in a band setting last week. I really like it. I left the pedals at home and just had the tele going straight in to see how it'd do. It has great cleans and does the edge-of-breakup thing really well. Easy to get good classic rock tones out of the drive channel too. Next week I think I'll see how it does with some pedals. Definitely a keeper.
