OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

I ran into discussions around my valley about anti-intellectualism. Here is an opinion piece citing some evidence, and an article from Psychology Today. It would sure be nice to turn it around. And to me, voting Hillary in to better support schools and get better judicial appointments than if the other side wins is about absolutely necessary. Even if I disagree with her on some points. So as I said, despite any misgivings I may have had, she is the clear choice.

I know. But the education one, the lack thereof, and the best chance to get it back, needs also to be emphasized, along with getting Citizens United overturned and having a decent court to protect our civil liberties. It bears repeating lest the warrior drums start to obscure the issues again.

yea....it's almost criminal for kids to have to shoulder hundred thousand dollar debt to get a B.S./B.A.
a guy i work with was all dancin' happy that he just paid off a student load debt of $30,000. he's an engineer and his wife is a doctor and they're in their 30's and still on the hook for another 80K
and that's just HIS loans

Yes, that, and moreover that the level of the average education today is what it is. and therefore the dumbing down of America. It seems almost intentional. But I try not to be a conspiracy theorist. More likely just another unintended heinous side effect of GOP policies since the 80's and the religious right took over.

ummm......i think i remember the saying "dumbing down of america" was coined by RUSH LIMBAUGH.....i'm absolutely sure of it. just sayin'
not that it's not true.....but in a different way than he was referring to. i just find it sort of comical that you would refer to a term that Rush created.

I was intending to paraphrase from the first link I posted, the NYT op-ed peace entitled "Dumbed Down Democracy". Was not consciously remembering the words of Rush L. I try not to do that.

Reagan was just the first one to actually pull it off. But this stuff goes back to when FDR was in office. Old money tried to push back against the New Deal over the years. They pushed hard especially hard against Kennedy but had to back off after the assassination. Then the Nixon administration turned to shit for them.

TP, if you spent less time posting funny memes, cool YouTube vids, and complaining about the forum being slow, then you'd be able to read a book.

FIFY...

C'mon man, this place is slow and I passed by a dude reading a book at a bus stop this morning on my way to work. He looked like a dork!!

And I never really adopted the full libertarian philosophy. Mine was more related to John Locke, "Father of Liberalism". I considered myself at the time more Classically Liberal, as opposed to Socially Liberal.

I liked him when he was figuring out the hatch but when he got all violent with the others, not so much. Don't get me started about being reincarnated by the smoke monster.

As a parent of two kids that recently graduated from college, I can directly relate to this. They both have years of debt to pay off. Our educational system is as broken as our health care system, and I think our political system is too broken to fix either of them.

I'm a real cheerful guy before my first cup of coffee, ain't I?
