I just shook the hand of a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp (3 up, 1 down)...no matter what the political climate or how you feel about this country or the way it's governed we can never honor the men and women who don the uniform and serve enough...

That's all I have to say about that...
Staff Sergeant. :thu:

in my opinion, we are seeing the wheels come off of that "negative peace" due to growing frustration over the continuing injustices. that, and the fact that with internet and cell phones, a lot more is known by more of the public now. Unfortunately, or maybe not unfortunately if change is not possible without some conflict, it appears to still be very polarizing.

I think a big part of the problem is intellectually lazy politicians and pundits immediately dumbing-down/polarizing this into a left/right argument. They’ve recycled “Support the troops” into “Support law enforcement” just like they did before the Iraq and Afghan wars. So this issue is effectively dead at the congressional level.

But that’s not as bad as it seems. Police are mostly governed at the local level. So activists will hammer this issue in state and municipal legislatures. Police tactics activists overlap with drug reform and gun control activists, so there are plenty of experienced people who’ve have some recent successes involved.
