I usually just figure it out on my own, but this has me wondering if restaurants are trying to pad the tips.

I noticed that for the first time a week or so ago. I was surprised for two reasons:

1) the tip should be based on the pretax total, don't tip for tax (as noted on this receipt).

2) that the percentages were higher than if the tips were based on some imaginary total above the bill's grand total.

That's just dickie.

At the totals they suggested with tip, their "15%" is actually 25.2% with tax or 28.1% without tax. That's crazy.
