Twice the speed of sound is very fast!
i tend to agree. the speed of sound is 768 mph at sea level at 68°F. it decreases as the plane increases in altitude, due to the air being thinner and less resistant. twice that would be over 1500 mph, and i don't think any airliner has reached that speed, ever.

At the altitude the Concorde flow Mach 2 is 1350 MPH and the Concorde flew at 1354 MPH which is actually a hair over Mach 2.
