Ha, for sure.

I actually contend that they were vital to the outbreak of bands at the time. Being on tv every week looking like you are living a fantastic life as a member of a band convinced many a young boy that a guitar and drums were the answer to their prayers.

Were they musically as strong as the beatles? no. Were they maybe equally as influential to the rise of everyone wanting to be a musician? Can make that case and argue it strongly.

Adn if I had Boyce/hart, Goffin/King. Diamond all writing for me. I would be proud of my output.

Nesmith wrote some fine tunes for the Monkees. While not as "pop" as the Boyce/Hart/Goffin/King/Diamond tunes, they stand the test of time quite well. I still find myself listening to these songs.

And, no doubt about it, Mike Nesmith was *the* reason I grabbed a guitar and became a musician.
