As a dude who has had a full beard since the late 1980's, I don't really care so much about the latest popularity of the trend, or what will happen when it ends. I use mine to cover up some nice facial scars from an accident in my youth, so the shave option as a fashion sense part doesn't really impact me.

But, yeah, the giant hipster beard is totally the mullet of today.

I don't think anyone has/had a legitimate aesthetic need for a mullet, but a lot of people (especially my soft-chinned brethren) will always wear a beard, and modify it along the way to not look like a pair of Hammer Pants.
