The thing is that there's other objects orbiting the sun (Eris, Charon, etc.) that are as big or bigger than Pluto. Would those become planets, too?

Uh... Eris and Charon aren't stars. They're small rocky objects. Eris is trans-Neptunian, like Pluto, and Charon's in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, if I remember correctly.

Charon is one of Pluto's moons, and Eris is a dwarf planet like Pluto

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and the dwarf planets Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris


I think they should just add the dwarf planets to the list and be done with it. We already have 2 classifications of planets in the solar system, why not 3?
