Mostly we were a run and gun operation. We very rarely could plan our night ahead. We would hear from Group Sales that they had a wedding group that had to be picked up at a certain time (and usually required more resources than I had). These things were the only part of our night we could plan ahead. Mostly my meetings were, the dispatcher called in sick, who do you want to dispatch? We're short a driver, are you going to drive tonight? Decisions that required two seconds to make. Shift changes had to be made in literally minutes. As fast as the previous shift could do DOT post trips and my guys could do their pre-trips. All the while people would be bitching about wanting to leave.

Got it. Sometimes one needs time. When I was a Firefighter/Medic we would scram the meeting for calls but we generally got around to the brief when the call was over, even if it was going back to quarters in the engine.

As a proud Gen-X'er (Latchkey kids: We were taking care of ourselves when we were in elementary school) I heartily endorse this meme.

Word yo.

I started Kindergarten at age 4, walked to and from school alone. Fended for myself every day once I got home. Really didn't seem like a big deal at the time.

I'ma bout to unleash the lost art of snack making up in this bitch!

Oh! You found bread? Give it me with some Kraft singles and some ketchup. I'm gonna make you a tasty fuckin' pizza kiddo!

:)
