A performance with the NY Pro Classic Power Gutiar

Here's a fresh pic how I remounted the speaker from inside rather than on the outside:

And a video - played for about an audience of about 20 to 40 (sorry didn't count). This was the opener for our open mic:

Ergonomically and playability wise I like the Alverez/Line 6 the best. Updated pic:

The other 3 electric built guitars play louder/stronger than this one primarily because of the bigger speaker. So does the Carlos. So the only thing this guitar really has going for it is the ergonomic layout and nice wood-feel of the neck. The Dean/Vox has 24 frets.

Underneath the SX/Star Line6 plays very nicely. But I don't like it's ergo's with the amp top-side so much. It is playable that way though. I didn't make accessible the tap button or turner display. After it's weight reduction (smaller back-side -see pics above - the Natural). Biggest negative is the speaker location - when playing it loud it's right in my face at the same time and its also a feedback challange with the mic.

The Laguna was the best in-home for a long time since the ergonomics were workable enough, speaker wasn't right in my face. I've recently loaned it to the studio/music-ctr and brought home the Dean/Vox. Though must admit current Natural rebuild still isn't quite as nice and the Alverez doesn't have the same drive with the smaller speaker (bought a pair of 4x10" car speak's may try one).

The Dean/Vox just came home from being on loan at the studio. It's a really solid guitar and IDK maybe the speaker-mount isn't as solid as I'd like cause it's a little hard to get it into live-string feedback. Which I know normally a no-want but with Power Guitars there's a ballance... want them to feedback within what the amp can do but not too much. anyway, it's as playable as the Vox/DA5 and Dean w/ 24 frets are (gr8), though must admit I'm more comfortable with the Roland and Line 6 amps and controls for the effects especially. Vox only lets you select pairs and then depth. Line 6 assumes the depth and varys the effects. Neither is perfect and seems what one gets used to. For me the L6 was fast to get the tone I wanted, but my instructor liked the Vox better.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk213/reitze/2010-07-10210226c.jpg

Well "The Best Electric" is re-challenged. The Dean/Vox is home and being enjoyed again. Neg's on it include its thick heavy body and the more difficult controls over its effects. (pic in quote).
EDIT: Just re-backed the Dean/Vox. Seems to play better to somehow IDK maybe just easier to hold it. The weight is 10.2 lbs. Here's the pics:
IMG_20101107_082732.jpg
IMG_20101107_083018.jpg

The Natural is re-done with a fresh back to remove the cutting board. This brought it down to 10lbs. It's got the best sound and also the mic. It's only neg is the speaker placement being too close to my face - though lefty that's ideal. It's an ergonomic night-mare in terms of control locations and the effects are hard NOT to tweek while playing. Here's a couple currnet pics:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk213/reitze/IMG_20101031_215805.jpghttp://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk213/reitze/IMG_20101031_215830.jpg

I just thought to post this update as I've just finished upgrading the speaker on the Alverex. It's a lot better than it was with less of that throated waw distortion sound from the Rolands undersized speaker but not much more output power. The 6" speakers from the L6 and Vox amps is stronger than this car speaker. Still it's better than the Roland MC's so the next Talman will work better too.
Edit: Oops- fresh batteries. The Alverez rocks best now. Speaker in the right place, amp with best tone, adequate speaker, live strings... AliSeven is the best.
BTW that was the reason getting motivated toward the speaker too - cause currently my best electric zone is still the carlos. So here's the redone Alverex. With the better speaker its still not the sound generator as either the Dean/Vox or the Natural/L6 but it has a nicer neck. So if playing at home its most likely 1st grab - so I guess that makes it the current "best"... till the Talman gets done...

Next Victim is a Vox

I went shopping today, took the Dean/Vox for Scott Henderson to try. He liked it a lot. I'm intending to loan/give it to a distant family member who plays well.

So I bought a really nice Shector - and I'm becoming insistent on having at least 1 humbucker on board my guitars - since I play so computer-close all the time. Nice they had a used Vox DA5 too.
So here's my next victim:

Cutting it in from the back:
IMG_20101107_162230.jpg

The drill marked the crap out of the face. Will have to learn finer luthier drilling techniques....
IMG_20101107_162131.jpg

I should peal the plastic off of the face and make an over-lay. That way if I ever do sell it there's a beginners guide to the amp.
IMG_20101107_163301.jpg

And finally the speaker. Well not finally - I still gotta come up with a place for the V,T,& Sw from the pickups and all the wiring. Still can't wait...

Edit ++:
Finally mounted the V&T knobs. Broke a wire for one of the pups - will have to re-solder ()not a problem). The switch comes a little close to the V knob but it was best I could do. Seems to be comming out OK. Still a bummer with the face-marks. Especially since this thing has some sort of exotic 3D effect. Funny I didn't notice till the stark contrast among pics. Walking toward it in the store it was so gradual I didn't notice. Here's 2 near identical pics that highlight that effect - oooooo peps may like that

IMG_20101107_225614.jpg

And so far to go on the back and all the wiring...
IMG_20101107_231710.jpg

Cut in the battery and flipped over the rear circuit board which helps make the knob and ports accessible.

This one sure plays nice! A little heave though at 10.9 lbs.

New knobs and back in the house

So I wanted better knobs for playing - oh such a nice sound this time too!
While I was doing the knobs I put the VOX logo on it and added a knob-part to the tap-button. I've already used it playing too - awesome! Like that other thread about having some effects on-board this thing rocks!

Back in the house for some more play. Here's a couple more pics with current knobs.

Will surly be making videos with this one going forward. The only drawback for it is it's weight (11 lbs even). I didn't hog out any more of the body than I needed. Perhaps I could come up with a pound of flesh out of it but for now... its a favorite!

I want to see Dracula play at the end of the video :thu:

Dracula's excellent! He plays really clean and its surprising what he does that way as compared to the origionals being distored. His wife has gotten a lot better since I've been taking lessons there. They've become a really good team:thu:

reitze, and Tig, this is a most copacetic moment for me.
This thread is the craziest upload I ever had, taking a long time, the little slider jumping up and down,
so I just looked at the pictures and wanted to get back at reitze, but Tig hit on my new inspiration first.
I never thought reitzes' self-amplified attempts should only be for electric guitars, if your volume gets that boosted.
When I saw these newest guitars, acoustics too, I'm thinking reitze is really getting good, starting to look very good.

Considering, say, what a 2" old Bose speaker can do in terms of high wattage,
seeing the acoustics with self-amplification made me think the next step is adding a microphone,
something I mentioned before, but seeing reitzes' new craftsmanship as enabling that now.

reitze! Sorry to be gone so long, you too, but five weeks before the election my residential online was deleted,
and I'm not putting it back on, even with Bell credits, because I'm moving to another city,
and the day after the election my residential hydro was shut off. Welland!

I'm still waiting to blow everyones' mind, bend everyones' brain, when I drain my new notes into this domain.
Jimi! Forty years later, your Axis turns again.

And I appreciate anyone who has fun with a Mr. Microphone. I've been using Shure SM58's since 1972, but,
the most fun I've ever had with a microphone was a microphone soap on a rope.
Let me shower you with my vocals, baby!

Great to hear from you John! Hi Trig. :helper:

Nice to get a little mojo even though I'm part happy part fustrated. This Scheckter/Vox can't do as much high-gain without RF feedback as the Dean/Vox. And similarly with the Alverez/L6 - can't do what the Natural/L6 does (and it has mr mic), Nor the Laguna/L6.

At least the pretty ones sell good- sold a couple - doesn't pay labor but keeps parts and builds happening while I try to figure out WTF with the RF feedback - or magnetic waves or perhapse some mechanical vabration... it just seems so darn hard to tell till after its built if it will work. Like the Dean/Vox plays w/o feedback-lockup while palm-heavy-muffled all the way to full gain on max-V,T,G settings. The live strings get hot but wow. In contrast the Scheckter/Vox goes into a squeel at over 5-settings when in high-gain amp-models, or the acoustic model (it has a high-f-high-gain-aspect).

Thanks again for the mojo!

Mr Microphone

{Edit: moved first part of this message here from previous reply}
I'll take one as long as it works with my Mr. Microphone.

lol, yea as they get louder it seems more an issue, especially when IDK what I'm about to say since I'm just making it up as I go. But yea, funny the mr microphone idea. The Natural/L6 has the headphone mic built onto it and I have another for another guitar if I settle on keeping one anytime soon. The L6 and Vox amps have input channels for a mic.
BTW, I think I first saw this Mr Microphone thing on OMG Delete Me, or maybe early in this thread - or another forum abusing me or ... well just lolz anymore:

Ok a response:

So OK the Alverez was outdone by the Scheckter/Vox while the Dean/Vox was top-playing wise and the Natural was a close second. So first was to upgrade the speaker and then to add the microphone. So here it is!
2010-11-15_22-45-53_77.jpg

edit: will update this post w/ better pics in a few minutes along with a couple videos - mic and speaker seem a big improvement - this mic is a lot better than the one on the Natural too.

I'm not knocking your vision or concept here but I am frankly surprised at the lack of craftsmanship your work displays at this point in the evolution of your guitar mods. You've definitely got to kick it up a few notches and avoid elements like the tear-out on that Schecter. You've come this far with your ideas....keep elevating your work.

reitze! You sold a couple? Way to go! Congratulations!
When I made my first lefty Strat-style body in '72, the local music store asked me to make a right-handed body for a customer.
That worked out nice, and what was a good deal was using little laquer, automotive touch-up spray cans for "sunburst" effects.
But by the third body I was thinking, what if I make one better than my guitar, but it's right-handed and I can't use it.
And then the fifth body got dramatic. This guitarist from Port Colborne wanted a John Watt body, with two-tone blue sunburst.
Neither of us knew his girlfriend was someone I dated for a week that summer and left behind, but they got engaged and she told.
So he came into Central Music with the body and threw it on the floor, stomping it and kicking it, and smashed it over a parking meter outside.
That frustrated me, all that work, and she was blimping out already anyway. He gave her a dove in a cage, kept the "white" theme happening, and she fell in love.

I've got to stop typing city names. Everyone around here knows who I mean. And he's still a few inches taller than me.
Knock knock knockin'on Fender some more, even in 1972.
