It's kinda disappointing

UNACCEPTABLE!
that not one word of Sonny Rollin's death. I know he's not as good as Horace Silver or Rush or the Foo Fighters but dam people.

First of all, I did not know he was still alive. Second, he played sax, not a guitar. Third he played jazz.

Sonny Rollins: You lived to 95, an impressive run. You outlived the popularity of jazz by miles. R.I.P.

RIP

Jazz saxophone, unfortunately, does not get the attention it deserves. I—seriously—think that the smooth jazz crowd made everyone want to never hear jazz sax again by the end of the nineties.

I generally don't post about famous people passing, but I am a Sonny Rollins fan, especially the albums he did with Jim Hall

I have mostly heard the stuff he did with Miles (which is amazing). Just bought Plus 4 on vinyl and hope to have a working turntable by the weekend so I can listen to it.

He played with so many jazz greats and recorded dozens of his own albums over his long career, so this rabbit hole may keep me busy for a long while. :)

I came on to say something about his being the last surviving (until recently) member of that group portrait "A Great Day in Harlem," but I see Andrew beat me to it. Huge loss.
