He still gets around, but traveling from CA to WV and making a few public appearances apparently takes a toll on him.

Actually - that sets the low end for dating/marriage. So 53 or older. So she qualifies.

I'm 54 so my dating 'filter' would be (54 / 2) +7 = 34 or older. My GF is older so she qualifies. Barely older....but older . :wink:

Not surprising really. I mean, I think the personality required to be the guy he is, and do the things he's done, kind of go hand-in-hand with being a full-of-yourself prick. I'm sure being passed over for the Gemini program didn't help matters either. :shrug:

Having known and worked with a bunch of Air Force pilots....this is about right.
 
Most of the old astronauts I've met were still a little cocky, but none more than Shepard. He was in his mid-sixties and still full of piss and vinegar! (but not an actual prick)

Fighter jocks and test pilots are known for their egos. I guess being being one of only twelve humans to walk on the Moon buys a good dose of swagger, too.
