Formula 1 2015 Discussion

Anyone who is in Austin for F1 and wants to meet up for a beer in the in between times, shoot me a PM. Wife and I are there.

Here is a view of practice 1 from my seat in turn 12. 20o mph to about 50 in a few seconds.

Second Friday practice cancelled, Saturday looks to be a washout, and qualy may have to be run tomorrow before the race.

I wonder how the Mexico track is going to fare...

Sorry, can't fix it with just my cell phone.

Austin is flooded, the track gates opening has been pushed from 8 am to noon. The FIA is currently taking their sweet time to decide if there will be racing today. All over the news they have govt officials telling people to not risk driving. Good times. I'm sitting in my hotel waiting to see what is going to happen today.

FP3 ran, qualy postponed until 9am CDT Sunday. If no qualy tomorrow, the results from FP3 will be used to set the grid. Hamilton is 1st in FP3, Vettel is 2nd, but would be 12th with his 10-spot penalty. Rosberg is 9th, but would be 7th with Vettel's and Raikkonen's penalties.

If there's no qualy tomorrow, it looks like Hamilton will clinch barring any reliability problems.

Hanging in Massa's pit. Too bad he

wasn't there. Still awesome to be so close to an F1 car.

I'm no one important, but my wife talked to a guy working the wall for Williams who let us pop in for a few quick pictures after everyone else had left.

Also managed to meet Button, Rossi, Paddy Lowe, Grosgean, Ricciardo and Lauda...for about 2 seconds each. Got some free Rossi hats and swag. It was a cool but rainy evening. The Williams guys were super friendly compared to the other teams. I talked to a tire guy for about 20 minutes, and the engineer dude my wife was talking to let us in the garage for a few pics. Super nice guys.

Also got to meet Will Buxton last night at his fundraiser event. Nicest guy I have ever met in racing. I'm the guy who doesn't look like Will Buxton.

Awesome pics, Tiltsta! Looks like you had a great time.

What a race! The podium wasn't exactly unpredictable, but some great racing and nice surprise finishes, especially Verstappen, McLaren and Rossi. Sourpuss Nico didn't do a very good job of being professional and a team player after the race, but Hamilton was a bit dickish throwing the 2nd place hat in his lap, so you can't really blame Nico too much. Still, he should have seen this coming and prepared himself for the inevitable.

Tiltsa, those pics are bitchin'! It is cool that you guys were able to get in there with them.

I watched some of the practice yesterday and they showed Eccelstone going into the track. I had an overwhelming urge to punch him in his face.

The race today was one of the best I have seen in years. I wish all races were like this as it made for great watching. I was happy with the result only because Rosberg lost and lost a chance to win the championship. His actions, post-race, including throwing the hat at Hamilton and his sulking on the podium, is the reason why I do not like him one bit.

Crashtor managed to get a few spins in over the weekend but no wall action...too bad.

This race reminded me of the Fuji 6 hr, race: A wet track at the start making for some close racing and then the drying track making changes nearly every lap. We need more of this type of racing.

Wife found a cheap set of main grandstand seats for Saturday, but everything was cancelled, so COTA texted us we could get free main grandstand seats for Sunday race day to make up for the Saturday cruddy racing. I sat 8 rows from the track right across from Ferarri's pits. Our original Sunday tickets were for turn 12, so I gave those seats to some kids with general admission and sat right on the main straight. I have a ton of awesome pics. I was maybe 50 feet from the cars. Made it out on track after the race and grabbed some tire slag for a souvenir.

Stuck around for Elton John afterwards. He put on a really good show. Overall, it was a great time and a great race.

All the driver meetings and the Massa pit thing was on Saturday after they opened the pits to the main grandstand crowd after everything was cancelled. Maybe around 800-1000 people stuck around, and they let us all into pit lane. It was pouring, so most people left pretty quickly. We just hung around and got lucky that the teams were still out working the PR.

Glad it worked out for you Tiltsta. I was thinking about you when I saw the weather was decent on Sunday after Saturday's washout. It could have gone much worse

The closest I got to F1 was on my way home today. I wasn't expecting this in the "Total" lobby of my shortcut to the bus stop. Wow, an empty table to boot!

His podium behavior was definitely unprofessional, but I can't blame him for throwing the hat at Hamilton. Hamilton tossed it in his lap as if to say, "Here's your #2 hat, bitch! I'm #1!" That was a low-class move by Hamilton. No need to kick a man when he's down.

Other than the race itself, the weekend was a total disaster. First we had to drive through some of the worst weather I have ever seen late at night in the middle of nowhere. I thought we were going to die. Then I forgot to pack a few things in the car, so my wife was pissed at me all weekend. We went to the track on Friday morning and caught practice 1, but when we tried to leave our car got stuck in the mud because the lot we were parked in wasn't paved. The weather was so bad on Saturday we decided not to go to the track. It's a bummer I missed out on visiting the paddock. Then they closed the lot where I had paid a lot of money to park in and made us catch a shuttle from downtown Austin where we had to pay for parking AGAIN! I had enough so I complained to COTA management about it, and they upgraded my tickets to Turn 12 which turned out to be great seats where I got to see a lot of overtaking and a crash. The race itself was epic, and I was happy to see McLaren running P5 and P6 for a while. I loved watching Red Bull take the fight to Mercedes early on. Evendors though the end result was the same as it has been most of the year, there was a lot of exciting action throughout the race in all parts of the field.

Then on my drive back home a truck kicked up a rock that damaged my windshield. Then later on I head a truck tire tread that damaged the wheel well on my wife's car. And now she is pissed at me again. FML.
