What are in your opinion, your thoughts, your beliefs the best three-album runs ever?

Hendrix's first 3.
VanHalen's first 3
Pantera starting with Cowboys from Hell

Stellar! Also someone mentioned The Police.

I submit The Cult. Dreamtime, Love, Electric, Sonic Temple. If limited to only three start at Love for the 3 distinct stylistic entities. Love was goth rock, Electric was AC/DC and Sonic Temple was polished Zeppelin-esque.

Loudness - Birthday's>Devil Soldier>Law of the Devil's Land
Rush - A Farewell To Kings>Hemispheres>Permanent Waves>Moving Pictures
Robben Ford and the Blue Line - Robben Ford and the Blue Line>Mystic Mile>Hand Full of Blues
Danny Gatton - Unfinished Business>88 Elmira St>Cruising Deuces

I think Bold As Love is considerably weaker than either AYE or EL so I wouldn't do any Jimi unless you count EL-BOG-Cry of Love

No love for 2112 and A Farewell to Kings?
I'd put those if I heard Hemispheres enough to be sure (I did not listen to Permanent Waves yet)

Oh yes. In fact, I'd started my list w/2112, and realized I could only pick three, so I edited and started it at Hemispheres. 2112 blew me away at the time, AFTK was also killer, but the next three knocked it out of the park.

hmmm I guess if you're going to a sophomore slump ABAL is about as good as it gets

Personally I like ABAL a lot more than EXP, but I think not hearing the songs as much greatly influences that.

EL is my fav out of the Hendrix catalog.

I think a good half or 2/5 of it is pretty slight for someone with a lot of weighty material. Some of the Jimi songs sound like they could be Noel Redding songs.

Just one

I get what you mean though. It was his singer/songwriter pop album.

Kind of reminds me of Houses of the Holy.

Factoid: A music appreciation professor either lost or let somebody steal my copy of A:BAL that was one of my first CDs from the longbox days I had had for like 16 years. He acted like he didn't give a shit. Pissed me off real good.

Longbox days?

And yeah that sucks. It was actually one of the first CD's I bought too. Definitely in my first 50.

Depeche Mode - Some Great Reward, Black Celebration, Music for the Masses. That was an epic run. Toss Violator onto the end, and it's a fearsome foursome. Songs of Faith and Devotion rounds out a solid quintet of quality.

I'd say Metallica had a pretty good run up to the Black Album...

GnR did pretty good with Appetite and UYI 1&2 if you want to count that later as separate.

U2- Boy, October, War.

The Fixx - Shuttered Room, Reach the Beach, Phantoms.

Duran Duran - Self Titled, Rio, Seven and the Ragged Tiger.

The first three A Flock of Seagulls records were fucking fantastic - Self Titled, Listen, The Story of a Young Heart.

Elton John could have multiple contenders here. Put Goodbye Yellowbrick Road anywhere in the chain you want to and you can't go wrong.
