Zwift? Strava? Something else?

In my wanders I know I've encountered a few of you on Strava (and am forever grateful - please know every single "kudo" does indeed help motivate!). Also use MapMyRide because of the in-app mph features (better than bike computer for me).

Soon, I hope to be Zwifting. The 'game' aspect of it tantalizes.

What are people using for their fitness tracking? I don't know if Zwift tracks walking as well, but if it does ... I'll be a happy guy.

Always want to hear what works (and doesn't) for people.
 
I use Strava and Trainingpeaks (and I always need more strava friends!) for keeping track of running stuff. (I use a gps watch on my runs, which then uploads to both automatically afterwards)

strava is good for the social stuff, and also just because it's the dominant service of its sort, so that essentially all brands have options for automatic uploads, etc in case of switching watch brand, etc

The trainingpeaks account I got through a group coached running thing I did, and it does a much more deep dive than strava on various training metrics, which in theory is super useful for keeping tabs on training load, but to make full use of it one would need to know more about such things than I do. it's got a nice annual training plan feature so if you have multiple specific races, etc that you're training for they can be scheduled out and it will build a recommended training load for each week, so that you can appropriately taper, etc. Overall it's a bit less user-friendly than strava, but good for data nerds. (it's just for storing/analyzing recorded data, not for actually tracking; ie there's a mobile app, but it's just for looking at data, not for recording gps while working out)

I've heard of Zwift, and the gamification aspect does seem kinda fun, but I don't do much biking. Does it have non-biking stuff these days?
 
I use Strava because everyone I know who cycles is on it. I’ve also used Map My Ride. But Strava is still the standard.

Let me know how paid treats you. I've thought about it.

Right now I'm walking almost daily, recording that on Strave and MMR. MMR is better functionality; Strava is a broader platform and I like the way it keeps historical data.

The Zwift Cave is coming - and when I do get that going, I'm almost certain to upload to Strava.

What I'd love to have is a Zwift for a treadmill - so I could do indoor treadmill workouts with a gaming aspect.
 
I paid for a year of strava premium, but I'm going to let it lapse when it expires. The training stuff is there (and in more detail) in trainingpeaks (which also costs money, but I get it for free via a coaching group). The personal heatmaps are fun, but there are free versions out there that you can connect a free strava account to (like http://www.jonathanokeeffe.com/strava/map.php )

paid strava is worth checking out though!

I'm still super curious about running on zwift, if you try that out I'd love to hear about it

yeah, sorry that maybe wasn't so well explained on my part; I think I was going for something along the lines of 'different strokes for different folks'..

I think the main 'con' for me is that I get the training stuff (training plans, pace/heartrate/relative effort/cumulative training stress analysis) included in a different app that I'm already getting for free, and the other things are either not helpful for me personally (the safety beacon feature is theoretically kinda cool, but I don't to take my phone with me on runs), or available elsewhere for free (the personal heatmaps that show everywhere you've run/biked/whatever over a chose timeframe)

If I didn't have access to the training stuff via trainingpeaks I'd keep up the strava subscription. I think the training analysis is both (nerdily) interesting and helpful for avoiding overtraining, etc

(and I'll definitely continue to use strava once the paid subscription lapses; I also like the way it keeps historical data)
