Yamaha SG2C Flying Banana 1960's Yellow

Do they often go for what the dude on Reverb is asking, or did my bud pay a reasonable price?

So rare that the asking price is not unreasonable. It doesn't have the market of the higher end Yamaha surf guitars like the SGV's, as far as immediate buyers looking for it, but the rarity of it makes the price not insane.

Had no idea...this is only the 3rd one I've ever seen...back in '75, a band that played the same places as my then band played had a guitarist who played one a lot, then I recall seeing one in a Ft. Worth pawnshop about 25 years ago, offered for $50, I think I remember, and then this one my bud found.
Come to think of it, as all three sighting were in the D/FW area, I wonder if they weren't all the same guitar?

Well, I think in the guitar world, people began to appreciate the quality of Japanese Yamaha's about oh, 10-15 years ago, most notably regarding acoustics(being that 10-15 years ago, you could get a blingy all solid 70's-80's Yamaha acoustic for not much change, and all in all would rival major makers in tone/quality/fit&finish), but this has since translated to the electric realm and they have some very sought after solidbody electrics in the current market, especially the various higher end SGV's as noted.

Agree about Yammie acoustics...got a mid-70s FG-160 that is my camping/beater/loan to drunks who want to jam guitar...still plays nicely and sounds surprisingly good for an all-laminated flat-top Martin clone. Think it cost $140 brand new.

I would like this body, with a HB at the bridge, a Floyd, one vol knob
no other electrvonissis

fuck yeah

that'd be awersome

that's more awesome that awesome

awersome.

I didn't look at the price but if I got one on the cheap I would. Those other similar remakes from the late nineties looked much better in a hippy way when it was hanging from someones shoulders.

WTF?

"It is one of the more unusual body styles we have seen, and extremely cool. Call us with any questions."
I got a question.. how can you sleep at night trying to sell someone one of the singular most hideous guitar "designs" in my recent memory?
It makes the reverse Flying V in another thread look positively elegant.

it's a guitar, not slavery.

What happened in the 60's should have stayed in the 60's.
Must respectfully disagree...the 60s was the beginning of the American people climbing out of their boxes and being who they REALLY are...for better (usually) or worse (admittedly sometimes). :thu:

Could you envision this gentleman in the '50s?

I should have said "What happened in the 60's, in bad guitar design, should have stayed in the 60's".
Of course I wouldn't overlook all the music that came from the 60's, including Jimi and the Beatles and the Stones and all the other bands that still make my favorites list.
On the other hand, they almost all played guitars that were designed in the 50's.
