I’d like to try one. But the local Yamaha dealer is a mom-and-pop has no inventory and all the employees do is smoke pot and lean on the counter, so…

Yep, I've only tried one, but it was a great instrument for the 700.?? pricetag. If I was to buy a solid body guitar in that range that would be the one.

They are pretty cool. I think I liked the p90 one the most:

cool demo. just looking for a straight ahead rock machine - would it be a good fit? also considering a reverend sensie ra.

Those are nice -- stylewise, they really hearken back to the old 80s "SG" series Yamahas that killed the contemporary Gibsons in the quality-control category. I'd sure be interested in checking one out. I am a bit surprised, however, that they don't offer one with a carved maple top. I believe they are all flattops.

I played the whole line at NAMM. They're really damn heavy, play well, but the pickups were underwhelming.

I liked the P90 one too.

thanks for all the input.

we only play 30-45 min sets so weight isn't a deal breaker for me. swapping pickups is not ideal but also not the end of the world.

but the reverend sensie ra I played recently seemed perfect bone stock so its a toss up until I play the revstar. the reverend was light and I loved the pickups. that bass contour knob was handy too. prices are pretty similar.
