Why dont more drummers learn to play with acoustics?

WTF is wrong with learning to use brushes and more subtle percussion techniques?
Seems to me it would be a good skill to have if you actually wanna get gigs in these days of in-ears, low stage volumes, and small room acoustic work.
Is tasteful traditional country and jazz drumming a lost art?
Just ranting because Ive been looking for such a person forever.
Yes, there's the rare few who can but they are real PROs who already have more work than they can manage with studio work and playing in multiple bands already.
All I can find is guys who can't hit anything less than hard as they fking can.

I can relate. I play in a open acoustic group that has different drummers that attend. They are always too loud and more than not ruin the song.

We had a drummer at a local open mic who would bring a full kit and play like he was in a huge hall instead of a small brewery. When someone would suggest he play softer he would get offended and say, "well they are drums.

We are lucky to have three percussionists at the open mic who know how to play with acoustic guitarists, keeping the volume in sync. Hopefully there is someone in your area who will be in the zone.

Ask they own a Cajon?

There are softer tipped sticks or electronic sets euth skins if they’re willing to give those options a try.

We dont really give a fk what they use as long as they are tasteful about it. Brushes, rods, sticks w a light touch, cocktail kit, cajon, congas, electric kits, any or all could work. The one good drummer I know with a small cajon based kit is out there working full time with no time for us. Unfortunately we cant seem to find a suitable amateur retired old hippie willing or able to take on the job.
