Who makes the best 18 v Drill ?

A year or so ago my 12V Makita life ended. Rather than search for replacement batteries I too like @B Valley bought the Ryobi pair. Haven't looked back since. Very reliable and because of the Ryobi line of interchangeable tools, I have since bought a number of tools including my yard work tools.

Search up “Ave 18v” on YouTube.

He does a lot of testing, tear downs, and comparisons.
A good one to watch is the one about batterias.

Craftsman power tools have been made by several different companies over the years. Today I think the brand is actually owned by Stanley Black and Decker who also own DeWalt & Porter Cable,

I wonder if that buy out coincided with Dewalts drop off in quality

IIRC they've been a Black and Decker owned brand since 1960. In the early 90s they pushed DeWalt out to the nation as a 'prosumer' power tool brand. I was working at lumbar yard/hardware store at the time and no one realized they were a B&D brand until they needed to get warranty service...which was done by the same places that serviced B&D warranty issues.

I use Porter Cable. Long battery life. Solid build.
If I wanted to upgrade I'd go to Mikita.

It occurred to me that you are going to use this drill as a professional mechanic. Therefore you have only one choice,

Thanks for the replies everyone. FWIW I think I'll end up going with the Miwaukie because I was so impressed with his (which btw I t said Lithium 18v and then I think it was either XT or XR)and the "Magnum" milwaukie corded I mentioned earlier is the shops and it's been used and abused since 2006 or thereabouts , never had to go in for repairs.
BTW here is the end result....as i said someone had done a butcher job to this years ago and left a broken bolt in the top hole and a broken tap in the bottom. They extremely off center drilled the top and they just slightly drilled the bottom one too big for the helicoil but it ended up takeing one.

Some of the guys in my father-in-laws shop liked using the Craftsman tools because when it inevitably died within a year they could just warranty it out and get a new one. Not sure if they still do that since we don't have a Sears around here anymore.
