Who here rarely has homecooked meals?

This is me, but it was a stark contrast 6 months ago. My girlfriend likes to cook, so we cook together now. It's nice, actually. Before that, I would get takeout or make frozen pizza. :)

My wife cooked for a living for 25+ years. My only issue is that she tends to cook for 10 people, but it's just us 2 plus our 21 y/o who is hardly ever home. Guarantees that I have plenty of leftovers for work lunches though.

I see no issue here

I'm single, but still cook most of my meals.
I go out a few times a month for stuff I don't feel like cooking ,such as Indian food.

I’m on the road for work a ton these days, and my hours change day-to-day. Unfortunately, don’t have a lot of time for a sit-down meal. At home, though, I try to cook as much as possible.

A lot of indian stuff is kind of footery due to the ingredients but currys, dhals etc... are pretty easy and quick for the most part.

For me, it's not worth the hassle. There is me, my wife and 2 kids. None of us like the same things. When I cook dinner, I basically make 4 separate meals. A giant pain in the ass, but I do it 4 or 5 times a week.

When it comes to feeding kids, when they get hungry enough, they’ll eat what ever you provide. Not sure if this works with wifes. Good luck.

Ask my mom if that works? She would put out the same food for me night after night and I refused to eat it. I went a week with no dinner because I refused to eat whatever vegetable she was trying to get me to eat. My kids are in high school, they'll just go get something if they don't like it, so I not only waste my time, but my money as well.

I’ve got a niece who is very picky eater to the extent that my sister would send her with frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwiches when she would come stay at my house. I never fed her one of those and also never had any issues with her eating whatever we were eating. I would give her a couple options for vegetables and told her she had to pick at least one. My sister still doesn’t believe that she liked quinoa, broccoli, green beans (not from a can). I treated her the same way I treated my kid and get them both to help prep dinner.

That's my house too. My kids are weird. They don't eat any of the normal kid friendly items most families can get away with.
Something as simple as spaghetti and meatballs gets broken down to:
Me - everything
Wife - Meatballs and sauce, no pasta
Child 1 - Plain pasta with butter
Child 2 - Pasta with sauce but no meatballs
Child 3 - Bag of powdered donuts and a slim jim.

It's mainly the cost of ingredients I don't have on hand that keeps me from cooking Indian.

Yeah some of the speciality stuff isn't worth buying for the odd curry but a handful of jarred spices, tomato paste, stock cubes and butter will cover you to start

Then most curries are just an amalgamation of those plus:
Ginger
Garlic (both of which you can buy jarred and they'll keep
Onions
Coconut milk or chopped tomatoes / pasatta
Then your meat / veg / lentils

You can fire together a massive pot or slow cooker curry for less than a fiver and the best part is it gets better the next day and day after if you use the leftovers.

Tonight's dinner got a 9 out of 10 from Mrs Jbj which makes it a 13 or 14 for those with normal taste buds. Took next to no time to make and have plenty for lunch tomorrow.
