When was the last time you used an electric knife to carve a turkey?

I do it every year--though it's actually just a turkey breast roast, not a whole bird.

It's been many years since I used an electric carving knife. An electric knife is overkill unless you are filming a gory horror film. All you need to carve a cooked turkey, or ham, is a large fork and a long, sharp carving knife.

I remember when I was I kid we had one but, I never used it.
I think I might have used my mom’s once or twice. I do not recall it going well.

I’ve adopted a carving technique that I learned from my brother the chef.
I carve the whole breast off in one piece (per side) following the bone and then cutting in from the side as low as possible.

Then slice the breast like a loaf of bread. Thick slices across the grain.
I get rave reviews every time.
The slices stay juicy because they’re thick.

My brother does something a bit different up front, but uses the same cutting method.
He’ll debone the turkey and then tie it up into a roast. He would do two birds for big gatherings.
He’d stuff one.
Using this method, he can fit two birds in the oven at the same time.
With the entire roast being a similar girth, it all cooks evenly. The way he does it, the skin is maintained. So you still get that crispy brown treat.
For serving, he’d slice it up like I describe above.

My wife will cook a turkey dinner for no reason at all if she’s given the chance. We had one in the last month or so.
She prefers to cook the whole bird. So, I’ve just adopted the carving method rather than the deboning process.

No need for an electric knife.

I haven't tried yet in my current oven, so it might not fit, but I'd try to spatchcock if I was cooking a turkey. I do it anytime I cook a chicken. Doesn't solve your carving problem, but speeds up cooking by a lot and results in a more evenly cooked bird.

I do the same as DCF but I use an electric knife most of the time. Much faster and no need to worry if my friend has a sharp knife. Sadly we always went to our friends house for TG but they are getting divorced so no more. We are still planning to see her, but she is vegetarian so no turkey. Lots of our friends traditions are going away this year, we've been going there for most of the last 30ish years

It was a long ass time ago but, I googled electric knife avocado green and I'm pretty sure this is what I remember.

One year when I was a kid, my uncle who always did the carving wasn’t there and I got voted to do it. I didn’t know I was going to be the carving guy from then on. I used an electric knife. It was fine and didn’t tear up the meat

Never used one and don't own one. However, I am quite picky about the knives in the house being very sharp...to the point that it annoys my wife. But a good sharp knife has never let me down.

Funny, I just moved ours from the junk drawer to the junk cabinet today.
I only use it to fillet fish, but the seafood store does it for free and I no longer fish.

Life's road hasn't lead me to the carving of the turkey.
It has lead me to the washing of the Thanksgiving dishes. Over 20 times.
