Whats a good Les Paul neck pickup?

I am to the point with Alnico magnet pickups that they are muddy and I cannot dig them at all. i have ceramic magnet pickups made I am more of a super distortion guy. The problem with DiMarzio is they made the SD2 and the SD3 and ruined the Super Distortion. They should have left it alone. Once you get to a point some things are done and don't need any more tweaking...just make them! That is why i have certain Pickups that I use for certain guitars and Ken knows how I like them. If you don't like the spam tough, don't read my posts. LMAO! Get thicker skin if you get offended that easy!

Dimarzio still makes the original Super Distortion, right alongside the Dual Sound, Super 2, and Super 3 pickups.

It's not the same super distortion and never will be. You aren't nearly old enough to understand, and with that said, I do what ever I want and always will kiddys....lmao! I won't reply to any more of your stupidity as you can't cure stupid, trust me I tried when I was a Deputy, but it is a never win battle. You can set and have a dumb off with yourself.

The Seth is a great pickup, although I love it in the bridge more than the neck, quite a few players, winders, builders are now using Al II bridge pickups and Al IV or V in the neck for the removal of mud.

Mark, Bryan can do better than either a Jazz, 59, or Antiquity, just tell him the sound you're after, his BG Buckers are still among the best out there.

I think you'll like Alnico IV

I'll have to take a look at their site. I've heard of them being mentioned on TGP but I've never seen one in person.

I think there might be a bit of a volume discrepencey btn the BB Pro and the Seymour Duncan. Personally, I'd just mess around with the pickup height until I found something I could live with. I actually like both pickups (59s and BB Pros) a lot, but the BB Pros I had were nickle covered (not sure about yours) which I've been told takes some of the harshness out.
 
guess I won't bother asking about strat pickups in my own forum anytime soon :facepalm:

I don't mind folks suggesting small builders and I invite the small builders and companies to post here but I'm getting a little tired of it being the same answer to every question, especially when everyone knows that I own sets of pickups from most of the small builders you guys are talking about. I have never tried the Wolftones so I might look at their page but if you guys could refrain from telling me about Rose and BG anymore I'd appreciate it. I know what they do and how to get ahold of them myself. I've even done demo videos or mp3s for both guys.

I would imagine so. I was thinking of just buying the '59 blues set which has both pickups for $139 and probably replacing both at once. The BB Pros are pretty loud and while I like the bridge pickup I'd rather have a balanced set.

I'm very pleasantly surprised with the Seymour Duncan APH-1N that came with my latest acquisition. Powerful, yet controlled. I actually need to lower it and raise the SH-4 (JB) at the bridge quite a bit to balance them. I'm usually not a neck pickup guy at all, but I find myself using this one a lot.

I'd stay away from the '59. I've had bad luck with one making a Yamaha SBG700S (all mahogany body) sound pretty muddy from the neck. I'm not going near a '59 again in the neck unless the guitar is at least a bit on the brighter side.

I'm a bit surprised you can't get a good sound that you like out of the BB Pro in the neck. Those pickups always seem so vibey/chimey to me.

But I'm a particularly big fan of the BB 1. The scattered wind sounds like two voices singing in harmony together (at least in my '59 RI). The sound is still fairly thick, but it's complex.

I'd also recommend the Seth Lovers or Duncan Antiquities (before the '59s). Could be that the DiMarzio Anniversary DP103 might provide the right chime.

If you want more cut and more articulation, I'm a bit of a fan of the Jazz. Often I like a bit more fullness from the neck than that, but I also play with low amounts of gain. But I still have plenty of respect for what a Jazz p'up does do. And then again a Gibson 496 can also do some cool things too. They tend to have a fairly flat EQ so there's not much boominess there unless you dial it in on your amp. :wink:
