Agreed.

I have some hats from the 70s and 80s that have foam front panels and mesh backs.
I don’t consider them to be what we call trucker hats today. They have a different shape to them.

They most certainly work by truckers back then, but they are different. They fit the head a bit better.

That’s why I specifically said “square-ish” in my previous post.

to me and my fashion sense I would define the two as such....a Ball cap is any brimmed in front only cap that a baseball player would wear in any given era of the Baseball. A trucker hat is like what the Snowman wore, like this

and really it comes down to intent much like music is defined.......

let's say a bucket of dishes and silverware is accidently dropped in a restaurant....is that music or noise?
Now let's say Sonic Youth makes a 7 mninute feedback track with Yoko One screaming the words bloody murder over and over and over...is that music or noise?
I say the first is noise unless the person intended to drop the bucket to create a music piece and i would say unless Yoko and Sonic you accidently pressed record then it is music because they intended it to be so.....

In terms of ball caps and trucker hats we'll, the same b ut it comes down to the brim. If the brim of a ball cap is formed ala "The snowman" then it is a trucker cap, don't matter if it is 7, 6 or 32 panel. it comes down to the manipulation of the brim.

Here is a basic primer.....top left is "I need a Monster drink brah", the middle is a trucker, the right is an everyday joe

Like others have said, the type of hat I wear most is a standard baseball cap. I prefer a fitted cotton ball cap to the mesh/trucker/one-size-fits-all style.

I just wear hats when I need a hat's job done. Ballcap keeps the sun out of my eyes, straw hat keeps the sun off my neck, rain hat keeps my head dry, etc.
 
I wear a dunkable sort of fishing hat when I'm fishing or kayaking in the hot weather. Keeps the sun off, and you can keep it wet to provide evaporative cooling for the bean. I have a few baseball caps for when I need the sun out of my eyes.

I've ordered a couple of these to wear when I don't want deal with my hair.

Myself prefers the nam style booney hat. the right "ballcap" can be fine but if chosen wrong you either look like a dad, a snowboarder/Extreme games motorcycle stunt jumper, a nascar fan beyond that they are not very functional for shade
