Question: What is a good living room lamp?

You looking for room lighting, or localized lighting? Those up-turned halogens get hot, but they do light up a room.

I have a couple of nice table lamps. They work great and provide a nice, warm organic bloom of light. I'm not sure they would cut through like a proper upfiring floor lamp with a powerful LED, but I like the old school feel of bulbs and a vintage look of a fringed shade.

I use a Tolomeo Mega in my living room. At ~$900 it’s expensive, but still affordable for a good floor lamp. It can handle a 150 watt bulb, which is a lot of light. The drawbacks are that there’s a fuse in the control box that occasionally needs replacing, and the control box is plastic, so of course my kids broke the slider.

But given what a good lamp costs it’s worth getting an estimate from an electrician to just run power to a new box in the ceiling and install a ceiling fan from the Modern Fan Company.

Fender Twin, turned around. Nothing like the soft glow of 6l6s that have been idling for hours on end. You could probably find a Super Twin cheap; 6x 6L6s - I had Ted Nugent used to run six of 'em in his living room.

We actually own a leg lamp that my mother got Mrs. P. for Christmas a few years ago. It's only about 12 inches tall, though. :(

We may need to narrow it down a bit, but here's a start.
